I’m sure that’s not intimidating or anything…

She slides her hands across the table and flips up so her palms are facing up, nodding to them. “When you’re ready,” she says, “place your hands in mine.”

I don’t hesitate. Maybe I should, but the thought of getting rid of whatever magic is coursing through me is too enticing to delay.

Tessa’s hands are soft and cool as she curls her fingers around mine and closes her eyes. After what feels like an eternity, she starts whispering under her breath—words I can’t make out—and her skin heats against mine.

I bite my lip at the sensation, staring at our hands. It doesn’t hurt, but as the connection holds, tingles travel through my fingers, up my arm, and eventually start overtaking my body. I grimace at the discomfort that follows, and my pulse races, unsure of what the hell is happening to me.

The guys are tense on either side of me, and Atlas’s eyes are narrowed on the witch.

A minute later, the tingling fades, and Tessa opens her eyes, releasing her grip on my hand. Her gaze sweeps across all of us, and she says, “It’s done.”

My brows tug closer. “That’s it?”

She presses her lips together against a smile. “Yep. That’s it.”

“How do we know it worked?” Kade challenges.

I sigh, getting up and grabbing a knife from the butcher block on the counter. I prick the pad of my finger and hold it in front of me as blood beads there.

No one moves.

I turn to Lex, lifting my hand toward him.

“Yeah, no. I’m good.”

“Seriously?”

Tessa laughs. “I’m guessing you tasted her blood while the magic was active?”

Lex scowls in response.

I turn to Kade next, who just shakes his head.

“For fuck’s sake,” Atlas mutters, walking around the table and grabbing my wrist. He lifts my hand to his mouth and closes his lips around my finger.

My cheeks heat when his tongue glides along my skin, and I quickly pull back. When he doesn’t immediately start choking like Lex had, the others seem to relax a little.

I look at Tessa. “Okay. Well, um, thanks?” I cringe at the awkward tone in my voice, but I’m not sure what else to say.

“You don’t need to thank me, Calla. You never should have had to deal with this to begin with, so again, I’m really sorry.”

“What made you decide to come and reverse the magic?” Lex asks, his eyes filled with suspicion. “Doing it in the first place paid your debt to Selene, didn’t it?”

Tessa nods at him. “I didn’t feel right about doing it, so having the opportunity to undo it wasn’t something I’d pass up.”

“Uh huh…” Kade mutters from my other side, clearly doubting her motives.

Tessa arches a brow, flicking her gaze between Lex and Kade. “Wow, you guys must be so much fun at parties.”

I choke on a laugh. Damn. I like this girl.

The four of us walk Tessa to the door, and after she’s gone, I retreat to my room. Gabriel brought up my studies before he left, and as much as I would rather be in the other room with the guys, formulating a plan to get him back, if I want to pass this semester, I at least need to make an effort to study. Plus, a short break from the supernatural is probably something I need right about now, otherwise my head is most definitely going to explode.

I sit cross-legged in the middle of my bed with textbooks open all around me, scribbling notes here and highlighting passages there.

I’m so engrossed in my sociology textbook that I don’t hear the knock at my door or the sound of it opening. When I look up and find Lex leaning in the doorway, I jump a little.
