I arch a brow. “Then what are you saying?”

“That it would be a lot easier if you kept those questions to yourself.”

“Easier foryou,” I remark in a snippy tone. I may be stuck here, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to sit quietly.

“For you too, I’d suspect,” he muses. “Now, if you don’t mind, I’d like to shower.”

“I do mind,” I snap, surprising myself. I’m sick of the aloof act from him.

“Are you planning to join me then?” His expression is smooth, serious. “You can ask all the questions you want.”

I stare at him. I have to assume he’s being serious because that’s the only side I’ve seen to this guy, but I can’t bring myself to say yes.

Atlas shrugs. “Lost your chance.” He walks across the room and slides open a frosted glass door to an en suite bathroom. A moment later, the shower turns on, and I walk out of the room with a knot in my stomach.

Backtracking, I return to the kitchen, though I am definitely not hungry anymore. I stop at the fridge and grab a bottle of water, downing half of it before I close the door and look to where Lex and Kade are sitting in the dining room, devouring plates full of bacon and eggs. When I approach the table and drop into an empty seat, they both turn to look at me, and a frown tugs at my lips when I realize they heard the conversation between Atlas and me.

“Where’s Gabriel?” I ask to quickly fill the silence.

“He left for work,” Lex says, gulping down a glass of orange juice.

I nod, reaching for the dish of strawberries because I know I should put something in my stomach. I bite into one and ask, “What does he do?” My tone is curious, though it’s mostly for show. They seem to know everything about me, and I’m going to have to figure them out if I have any chance at making it through thisarrangementalive.

Kade shrugs, then with a smirk says, “I don’t actually know.”

Lex rolls his eyes and tosses a blueberry in his mouth. “That’s because you don’t pay attention to anything.”

“That’s not true.” His smirk grows as he turns his attention to me. “Isn’t that right, Calla?”

I glare at him. “You did not just say that.”

His smirk remains. “Oh, come on.”

“You should eat something.”

I jump at the sound of Atlas’s voice behind me. He pulls out the chair next to me and sits before scooping a pile of scrambled eggs onto the plate in front of me.

“Lex ate all the bacon,” Kade comments, pulling his phone out.

Atlas ignores him, angling himself toward me. “Eat.”

“Fuck off,” I shoot back. “I’m not a child.”

A muscle feathers along his jaw and a drop of water falls from a strand of hair in his face, wetting the front of his light gray T-shirt. He catches my gaze, and my mouth goes dry. “You’re going to eat what I put on your plate and you’re not going to argue with me about it. Understood?”

I’m nodding before I can stop myself. Except, I wouldn’t be able to stop myself if I tried.Fucking glamour. I pick up the fork next to my plate and start eating.

After a few minutes of eating in silence, I glance toward Lex. “Do the rest of you have jobs?"

Lex nods. “I’m a kindergarten teacher.”

I almost choke on my eggs when my head whips toward him—only to find him smirking at me. “Funny,” I deadpan.

“Hey. I’m great with kids.”

“That’s terrifying to even think about,” I mutter, returning my gaze to the plate in front of me.

“He works for me,” Atlas says in a smooth voice before taking a drink of his coffee.
