“I want you to kiss me,” I whisper, looking up at him as my heart rate kicks up.

He shifts closer until we’re a breath apart. His hand cups the side of my face, and I lean into his touch. I feel safe with Gabriel, though I can’t for the life of me decipher why. I’m also not going to question it. Instead, I bring my mouth to his and close my eyes as our lips brush. Slow and soft. Gabriel is gentle with me, as if I’m moments away from shattering apart. It’s… sweet.

Gabriel slides his arm around my back and pulls me forward until I’m pressed against him. My arms drape over his shoulders as he tips my head back, deepening the kiss. When his tongue darts out, my lips part to let him in. He makes a sound at the back of his throat, and the muscles in his arm tense around my back. Without warning, one of his fangs slices into my lip.

I pull back in a flash, and a drop of warmth rolls down my chin. I lick it away quickly, but Gabriel’s eyes are locked on my mouth. My heart hammers in my chest as I slowly reach up and touch his lips with my finger. He opens his mouth enough for me to see his razor-sharp teeth, and I poke his fang with my finger, gasping softly when it breaks the skin and a bright red bead of blood appears. I stick my finger in my mouth and suck gently, watching as Gabriel’s jaw locks.

I lean in again, hesitantly pressing my mouth against his. When he kisses me back, I know the exact moment when he tastes my blood. His entire body stiffens, and he inhales sharply through his nose. He sucks my bottom lip into his mouth, trying to taste more, but I’m quickly made aware it isn’t enough when he pulls back and stares at me with liquid silver eyes.

“You want to bite me.” My voice trembles.

His eyes dance across my face as if to gauge my reaction it that. My belly swirls with nerves and excitement. I’m scared to bare myself to him, but tempted by the throbbing between my legs.

“Calla,” he murmurs, gripping my hip with one hand and sliding the other up my arm to cup the side of my face.

“Will it hurt?” I ask softly.

When he smiles, the tips of his fangs show, making my pulse jump. “It can, but not like this.”

I frown, swallowing hard. “What do you mean?”

“When a human offers themselves to a vampire, the bite can be pleasurable—euphoric even. Vampires can also glamour humans to feel that way if the vampire chooses. Otherwise, if the human is being forced, the pain can be excruciating.”

I nod absently, a shiver running down my spine at the thought.

“I would never force you to do anything you don’t want to do,” he says in a hushed voice, his thumb grazing my cheek. And I might be the most naive person on the planet, but I believe him.

Gabriel presses his lips against my forehead in a gentle kiss, and my eyes close. Despite my racing heart, I force my muscle to relax and tilt my head to the side. Gabriel leans in, moving the hair away from my neck.

I expect him to hesitate, to ease into it. Instead, there’s a flash of sharp pain that steals my breath—a brutal reminder that Gabriel is a vampire, a monster, and I have absolutely no power here—and then warmth floods through me. The pain is over in a matter of seconds, replaced with sensations I never could have imagined. The pull of his mouth at my throat has me throbbing in seconds as I lean into him, gripping the front of his shirt as he drinks deeply.

Every nerve ending in my body flares to life. My skin tingles and warms, and I feel as if I’m floating on a cloud. It’s suddenly very difficult to remember why I don’t want to be here, and I press my lips together to keep from moaning out loud.

Gabriel pulls back slowly, lapping at my neck for a few moments before kissing my cheek. Before either of us can speak, the door opens and Lex slips inside, closing it behind him. His eyes shift between us, and when he opens his mouth, his fangs glint in the light.

“I thought I smelled something sweet,” he purrs, coming closer.

My head is light and hazy. “I taste sweet?” I ask without looking at Gabriel.

“You taste absolutely exquisite,” he murmurs in my ear.

Lex crosses his arms, and my eyes go to his tattoos. “So that’s what you kids are up to in here.”

“Jealous?” I taunt, then clamp my mouth shut, becausewhere the hell did that come from?

Lex smirks. “Fuck yes.”

I inch back toward the headboard, and both vampires watch my every movement, making my heart race. I can clearly see which direction this is going in, and part of me wants it so much it’s embarrassing. The other part, though, the rational one, isn’t sure what to make of the situation. I feel safe with Gabriel, and as much of a wild card as Lex seems to me, the two of them together balance out my nerves. Of course the idea of that is beyond bizarre, but I’ve quickly come to the conclusion that my knowledge of vampires is detrimentally limited. I wasn’t expecting the pull I feel toward them, and while I’m not sure if that has more to do with the blood oath or their vampiric lure, it’s something I’m unable to ignore—or resist.

“Stay with us now, angel,” Gabriel says in a soft tone, snagging my attention.

I take a deep breath and nod. “I’m here.”

In the space of a heartbeat, Lex is at my side, leaning over the bed and tilting my face toward him with a gentle finger under my chin. “If you thought Kade was good, you have no idea what you’re in for.”

My eyes widen. “I think he’d disagree,” I breathe. I don’t have a chance to overanalyze this scenario, which is probably a good thing, because I am so out of my element it’s not even funny.

“Hmm,” Lex hums, leaning in until our noses touch, “allow me to prove him very wrong.” In a flash, he grabs my hips and pulls me down so my head rests on the pile of pillows at the headboard. I wet my lips, pressing them together as he slides his hands down my thighs. He keeps his eyes locked on my face, making my cheeks flush, and Gabriel moves up the bed and leans in to kiss my neck. He nuzzles my skin with his nose, inhaling deeply.
