He grins. “You going to tell that to Atlas?”

My jaw clenches, and I roll my eyes. “I’ll—”

“Tell me what?”

I clamp my mouth shut when his voice reaches me, and turn to look at him. He’s arching a brow, waiting for me to answer.

“Calla doesn’t want us crashing her party,” Lex says, and I don’t have to look at him to know he’s grinning.

“It’s bad enoughyou’recoming,” I tell Atlas. “How do you think it’s going to look if I show up with all of you?”

“Uh, it’s going to look like you’re the luckiest woman in this fucking city,” Kade chimes in as he struts into the room.

Where did he come from?

“This is ridiculous,” I grumble.

Lex slides his arm around my waist and pulls me against his side, pressing his lips to my ear. “Come on,” he murmurs, “it’ll be fun.”

I’m leaning into him before I can stop myself. “I don’t believe that for a second,” I say in a low voice.

“I’ll make you a deal.” He rests his chin on the top of my head. “You don’t make a fuss about tonight, and Atlas will do whatever your heart desires.”

My stomach clenches at the thought of having the typically stoic vampire atmymercy. I can’t bring myself to look at him, though he must hear the sound of my pulse racing beneath my flushed skin.

Kade chuckles. “Can I get in on that?”

Atlas rolls his eyes. “Not in your lifetime.”

“You little liar,” Kade shoots back, eyes glimmering with amusement.

My interest is officially piqued. I shiver at the thought of Kade having his way with Atlas as he did me. Or would Atlas overpower him and take control?

“Fine,” I say, refocusing and shifting away from Lex. He lets me, of course, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to move. “But you guys better act fucking normal.”

Lex grins when he realizes I directed that last bit at him.

“I’m going to shower,” I say with a sigh and walk toward the hallway to my bedroom.

“Want some company?” Kade calls after me.

“Not even a little bit,” I say automatically without turning back.

“I’m surrounded by liars.” His voice carries to me as I close the bedroom door.

Arriving at the address Brighton texted me a few hours ago, my Docs crunch against the gravel driveway when I slide out of the backseat of the Escalade. I adjust the knee-length, silk emerald dress that rode up my thighs during the drive across the city. I shiver at the chill in the air and wrap my arms around myself as the guys get out of the car. I’m vibrating with nervous energy and can barely wait to get inside and get a drink in my hand.

Kade, Lex, Gabriel, and Atlas don’t exactly exude subtlety. They’re wildly attractive and intimidating, and showing up with the four of them flanking me has my heart pounding like a jackhammer. People are going to stare and whisper and make assumptions. Brighton will have a million questions that I won’t be able to answer.

“Relax, angel,” Gabriel says in my ear.

I force a smile. “I’m fine. Let’s just get this over with.”

Kade rolls his eyes from my other side. “So dramatic. It’s a party, not an execution.”

Music booms from the farmhouse at the end of the driveway, the heavy bass making the ground vibrate. Twinkle lights are strung across the front porch, and the air is filled with a heady combination of pot smoke and booze.
