He opens his mouth as his eyes narrow, and I can’t help the grin that curls my lips. “Bastard,” he grumbles under his breath.

I lean up and kiss him softly. He tastes like beer, and the smell of his cologne tickles my nose. “It’s okay. We can’t all be good at everything.”

He peers down at me, curiosity and amusement making his eyes appear lighter. “You’re a little drunk, huh?”

I lift my hand and hold my thumb and finger apart to show hima little bit. “It was the only way tonight wasn’t going to be a complete train wreck.”

He shrugs. “We aren’t that bad, Calla. Surely, you believe that to some degree.”

I frown at him, swallowing another mouthful of hard lemonade. “I don’t want to talk about this. So either shut up and dance with me or leave me alone.” I grab my drink, down the rest of it, and leave the cup behind, taking Brighton’s and heading toward the living room. Kade follows, shaking his head at me, and the smirk on his lips makes my stomach flip flop.

Before I can step into the living room, Kade circles my waist and pulls me to him, pressing his lips against my hair. “You’ve got me wrapped around your finger, you know that?”

My pulse spikes, and I set Brighton’s drink on the closest surface before wrapping my arms around Kade’s neck. I lean up in the same moment he dips his face closer, and our lips crash together. We battle for control—I grip the back of his hair and his hands cup my ass, hauling me against him. His erection presses into my core, and I gasp into his mouth. He breaks the kiss and drags his lips along my jaw. When he reaches my neck, I tilt my head, exposing it to him as my heart pounds. The room falls away, and it’s only the two of us and his mouth on me. His fangs scrape slowly across my skin, making the hair at the back of my neck stand straight with anticipation of his bite.

“Kade,” I breathe, practically clinging to him.

His tongue darts out, and I hold my breath. The music pounds in my ear, but it feels as if I’m hearing it from underwater. I don’t want to be here anymore. I wanthim.

He trails kisses up and across my jaw again until his mouth presses to the corner of mine. “Later,” he promises, as if reading my mind.

“Now,” I push, tightening my grip on him.

“Easy, angel,” Gabriel says from behind me.

I pull away from Kade and freeze when my gaze lands on where Atlas is speaking to Brighton across the room. The lemonade suddenly feels heavy in my stomach as I watch Bri’s confused expression. She looks alert and, well, not glamoured, but whatever Atlas is saying to her is—

“… Calla.”

I shake my head, pulling my gaze away from my best friend and… whatever Atlas is to me. I’ll press him later about what he was talking to her about. For now, I turn back to Kade and Gabriel. “Huh?”

“Are you ready to leave?”

I pull my phone out and squint at the bright screen. We’ve been here for nearly three hours. It passed in a blur of alcohol, dancing, and handsy vampires—and now my head is pounding. “Yeah,” I say.

Lex chooses that moment to appear and hands me another cup. “Water,” he says with his signature wink. “Drink up. Atlas will kill you if you puke in his car.”

I scowl at that but sip on the water anyway.

Gabriel catches Atlas’s gaze and nods to him, and the three of us walk around the edge of the room, meeting him in the hallway.

“You’re leaving?” Brighton asks, frowning.

Nodding, I hand Lex the water and pull Brighton into a hug. “You want a lift home?”

“Nah, I’ve still got some party in me.” Her eyes roam over to the group of guys waiting for me. Something shifts in her gaze, but I can’t put my finger on it before it’s gone. “I’ll call you tomorrow.” With that, she dances back into the crowd.

I finish the water on the way to the car, the cool air making me more aware and less nauseous.

“You good?” Lex checks, his eyes flicking across my face, studying it to see for himself.

I shoot him a sarcastic thumbs-up. “I’m so good.”

Kade chuckles from beside me and throws his arm around my shoulders. The gravel crunches under our feet and the dark, crisp air fills with fog with each exhale.

Atlas unlocks the Escalade, and we pile in, him and Gabriel in the front, and me, Lex, and Kade in the back.

I tip my head back against the seat, then end up leaning into Kade. He lifts his hand and pets my hair soothingly, and I close my eyes, humming softly at the sensation of his touch. I slide my hand across my lap until I reach Lex’s, then entwine my fingers through his. He traces slow circles on the back of my hand.
