He thrusts harder, a challenging glint in his eyes.

Clenching around him, I grab the back of his neck and pull him to me, sealing my mouth over his. At least if we’re kissing, he can’t ruin this by talking. Our mouths move together as Kade thrusts into me, deep and slow, and then faster. He brings me to the edge several times, easing off just as the delicious pressure builds to new heights.

I growl against his lips, meeting his thrusts, but he shoves me back against the shower wall and holds me there so I can’t move my hips, and continues his languid pace.

His mouth moves from my lips to my neck, kissing and sucking playfully. “Do you want to come?” he murmurs, tracing the shell of my ear with his lips.

My pulse spikes as he holds himself still inside me. “Yes,” I ground out.

He rolls his hips, pushing in deeper and hitting a particularly sensitive spot. “Yes, what?”

“What, you’re going to make me beg for it now?”

“Hmm, no. But you would if I asked, and we both know it.” He thrusts hard and fast, making me gasp in surprise. I hold onto his shoulders to keep myself upright, and my moans fill the steamy room as he pounds into me over and over. The tension builds, and when Kade finds my clit with his fingers, I come undone. I clench around him in the same moment he sinks his fangs into my neck, drinking deeply as he continues thrusting into me.

I cry out, and he catches me when my legs give out. His cock pulses inside me, and my skin tingles with pleasure. I keep my eyes closed as I catch my breath, only opening them when he pulls out of me and backs us into the stream of water. He pulls away from my neck and lets the water wash away the blood before he sets me on the stone bench on the other side of the shower. I’m eye level with his cock, and when I reach for it, he turns to the side and captures my chin between his fingers, tilting my head back so I’m looking at his face.

“But you didn’t—”

“That wasn’t about me.” His eyes take a quick scan of my body. “Can you stand?” He releases my chin and holds his hands out to me.

I take them, allowing him to help me get up. He kisses me softly, slowly, and then he reaches behind me for the shampoo bottle. I’m a little stunned, so when he squirts shampoo onto his hand and turns me around to start washing my hair, I say nothing. I let Kade take care of me, and it’s… really fucking nice.

The five of us sit down for dinner, and the kitchen is filled with the savory aroma of roast and potatoes—one of my favorite meals. It’s no coincidence, I’m sure. These guys did their homework.

I sit beside Atlas, with Kade and Lex across from me and Gabriel at the head of the table. Reaching for the water pitcher, I meet Gabriel’s gaze and say, “Are we going to talk about what happened earlier, or what?” I pour myself some water before returning the pitcher to its spot in the middle of the table. When Gabriel doesn’t answer and instead glances toward Atlas, my gaze follows. Everything seems to lead to Atlas. I watch his reaction, but his expression is, as always, infuriatingly impassive.

He sighs audibly and glances around the table at the rest of the guys before settling his gaze on me. His eyes are dark and his jaw is set tight. The nerves in my stomach are knots of unease with little flickers of excitement, because despite the tension hanging in the air, it seems as if I’mfinallygoing to get some answers. It’s about damn time.

“Calla,” Gabriel says, pulling my attention away from Atlas. “There’s a vampire in New York who is looking for you.”

I blink at him, then shake my head. Clearly I misheard him, because that makes no sense. “I don’t understand,” I say in a quiet voice. The nerves in my stomach have turned to concrete.

He frowns. “There’s a lot to it, but we aren’t the only vampires your family was associated with years ago. This particular vampire was involved in the business deal we helped your ancestor out of.”

“What’s that got to do with me? From what I’ve been told, the oath was only made between my family and the four of you.”

“That’s right,” Atlas says. “There’s no merit to Dante’s claim to you, but that doesn’t eliminate the threat. He wants something to make up for losing out on that deal. He wants your blood in exchange for what he lost. He also has a bone to pick with us for some shit that went down decades ago, but that really isn’t what’s important here.”

Claim to me?My eyes widen at the vaguely familiar name, recalling the phone call I’d overheard Atlas on when that name came up. “And this vampire—Dante—he was here earlier?”

“No,” Kade cuts in. “That was Marcel. The arguing you heard was the result of the less than ideal information he provided us.”

“Marcel?” I ask, my brows knitting.

“He’s an informant of ours,” Gabriel explains, taking a sip from his glass that is filled with dark red liquid too thick to be wine.

Kade stabs his piece of roast, slicing a piece off and biting it off his fork. “Apparently Dante has been sniffing around a few of our buildings in the city since word spread that we fulfilled the oath.” He swallows and adds, “Guess he figured we’d be keeping you there.”

Instead of asking any number of other, far more important questions, I say, “You have properties in New York too?” It hardly matters, and I’m not even sure why I asked.

Lex shrugs. “Real estate is a good investment.” It’s the same thing he told me when I discovered he owned the building I’d been living in.

I nod absently. “So what exactly does this mean?” Part of me is glad they’re finally telling me what’s going on, but knowing there’s a vampire out there looking for me makes me miss the ignorance of being kept in the dark just a little bit. I try to shake the chill that seems to have settled in my bones, but it’s not going anywhere. I swallow past the lump in my throat and push a potato around my plate, chewing my bottom lip.

I glance across the table when Lex murmurs my name.
