I choke on a forced laugh. “You don’t know anything about me.”

Those silver eyes pierce right through me. “Care to make a bet on that?”

“Not a chance,” I say around a yawn.

“Because you know you’re wrong.”

“Oh yeah?” I cross my arms, leaning against the back of the chair. “What do you know about me, Atlas?”

He’s out of his chair and leaning over mine in the time it takes me to blink. I suck in a short breath as he grips the armrests and leans in until his nose is an inch from mine. I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to the incredible speed these vampires possess.

“You think we haven’t spent years getting to know you?” His breath tickles my cheek, and I force myself to hold his gaze. “That we haven’t memorized everything about your life while we waited for the right moment to—”

“Ruin it?” I interject with a bitter tone.

His eyes seem to darken, and he lowers his voice. “You think I don’t know how to set your body off like a fucking firecracker with a single touch?” There’s a challenge in his voice that has my pulse pounding beneath my flushed skin.

Boldness grips me, and I say, “Then why haven’t you?”

He stares at me for a long moment without saying anything, and then he murmurs, “Because Kade called first dibs on your pussy.”

Those words feel like ice water being dumped on me, effectively murdering the fluttering in my stomach.

I scowl and shove him away. “Asshole.”

Atlas straightens and walks toward the door. “Get some sleep. You’ll be returning to our place tomorrow. And Calla,” he says, pausing to look at me over his shoulder, “don’t run again. It won’t be me coming to get you next time, and Kade isn’t nearly as patient as I am.”

I stare straight ahead until the door clicks shut behind him. And then a rush of tears blurs my vision as I stand and walk into the bedroom, crawling into the massive bed. Exhaustion clings to every part of me, which is the only thing that allows sleep to pull me under.

I dream of razor-sharp teeth. Blood everywhere. A pounding in my chest and… a throbbing between my thighs.

My eyes fly open to a dark room, and for a moment, I forget. A fleeting, peaceful moment before it’s all ripped away and reality settles in once again.

I shoot up in the bed, clutching my chest as it all comes rushing back.

“Good morning.”

I yelp before slapping a hand over my mouth. My head whips toward the voice, and when my eyes meet Kade’s silver ones, I scramble off the bed, Atlas’s voice ringing in my head.

Kade called first dibs on your pussy.

I back away from the bed, keeping my eyes on him. He leans back against the headboard, stretching his black jean-clad legs out on the white duvet. My breath catches when he flicks his tongue along his bottom lip before smirking.

“Kade,” I whisper, my voice shakier than I’d like. I clear my throat. “What are you doing here? What time is it?” I glance toward the window. The sunrise is barely skimming the sky, so it can’t be much later than six.

I shift my gaze back to the bed, but he’s not there. The hair on the back of my neck sticks up, and I hold my breath. “Kade…”

“Turn around.” His voice makes me freeze; he’s right behind me. He’s not glamouring me, but I do what he says anyway.

I stare at his chest as the seconds tick past. Finally, I force my gaze to his face. He’s clean-shaven today and smells annoyingly good. Like peppermint and expensive cologne, as if he took a shower before coming here. And his dark brown waves are tousled stylishly and frame his face in a way that makes him look as if he should be on a runway during New York Fashion Week instead of in this hotel room with me.

His lips curl into a grin. “Good morning,” he says again, reaching forward and capturing a piece of hair that escaped my bun while I slept. He twirls it around his finger, before tucking it behind my ear. My skin tingles where he touches, but I don’t move away.

“Hi,” I say in a quiet voice.

“Hi,” he echoes with a sparkle in his eyes. “How did you sleep?”

“Does it matter?”
