Fuck. My cock twitches at the tone of her voice, the viciousness that fills her words.

“Are you sure?” I ask, keeping my eyes on Kade and Lex as they take turns dodging attacks from our target while getting some non-lethal hits of their own on her. There’s a gash across her left cheek and another near her ear, staining her hair and dripping down her neck and chest, disappearing between her breasts.

Gabriel backtracks to where Calla and I are standing. “Angel, this isn’t—”

“My fight?” She shakes her head and continues in a firm voice, “I disagree.”

He moves to her other side so she’s standing between us. “Of course it is,” he assures her, “I just don’t want you to think this is going to prove anything to us. Or that you need to.”

She turns her dark gaze on him, releasing my arm. “This isn’t about you all. It certainly has nothing to do with what you think of me. I want this forme, Gabriel.”

He nods, turning his attention to the others. “Lex, Kade,” he shouts, and Calla doesn’t waste any time charging toward the fight. Gabriel and I follow on her heels.

Kade slams his fist into the side of Selene’s head, and she stumbles to the side—probably regretting her choice of footwear right about now.

She snarls, catching her balance, and whirls around, but Lex is right there, taking a swipe at her and digging his nails deep across her chest.

Calla halts, her eyes widening as Selene growls in pain. Kade attempts to wrap his arms around Selene from behind, but she slams her head back, smacking into his face, and he falls backward a few steps, reaching for his nose as blood gushes from it.

“Fucking hell,” he hollers.

Lex moves in again, fury in his gaze and blood running down his face from a cut just above his right brow. When Lex shoots forward to attack, Selene shoves him away and moves at preternatural speed, grabbing Calla by the throat and pulling her close. “Hmm, you know, it’s been too long since I tasted something as sweet as you were, pet, and I could use the boost.”

Before any of us can get to her, Selene sinks her fangs into Calla’s neck. She cries out, the sound strangled and filled with pain.

Gabriel and I both move for them, but a second later, Selene stiffens, pulling away and recoiling from Calla… who isgrinning?

Holy hell. She planned for this.

The vampire chokes and spits blood onto the pavement as she claws at her throat as if it’s on fire.

Everything moves in slow motion as Calla’s blood soaks the front of her shirt. She reaches for the dagger at her thigh, pulling it out and lifting her arm as she stalks toward the vampire who bit her. “What’s it going to take for you vampires to stop underestimating me?” With a steady, unforgiving swing, Calla buries the dagger in Selene’s chest.

The vampire’s eyes pop wide, filled with disbelief. She sinks to her knees, and Calla pushes the dagger in deeper and gives it a rough twist, her heart jackhammering in her chest.

Selene’s bloodstained lips open and close as if she’s trying to force words out, but all that comes are gargled noises and short gasps for breath.

Calla backs away, her hands shaking at her sides as Selene reaches for the dagger sticking out of her chest, unable to grasp it as her wide eyes roll into the back of her head. She collapses to the side and twitches for a few moments that seem to last a small eternity before she finally stops moving.

Calla

Selene’s blood is spattered across my face, hot and wet against my lips.

It’s not the first time I’ve consumed her blood, but it’s sure as the white ash dagger sticking out of her unmoving chest going to be the last.

I stumble back until I hit a solid wall of muscle. Hands grasp my shoulders, turning me around until I’m eye level with Gabriel’s chest.

“Look at me, angel.” His voice sounds far away despite him being directly in front of me. My entire body feels tingly and uncomfortably warm to the point where sweat dots my brow and upper lip. I press a hand against my stomach, cringing at the way it clenches and churns, taking in the bloody bodies scattered across the pavement—including the one I killed. I swallow the bile burning my throat, gritting my teeth against the waves of nausea.

“I think she’s in shock,” Kade says walking into my line of sight and standing next to Gabriel. “She’s white as a sheet and her pupils are blown.”

“That was the hottest fucking thing I’ve seen in a long time,” Lex adds from behind me.

Gabriel sighs, stepping away to give me some space. “Not now, Lex.”

I lick my lips, cringing as I taste the copper bitterness of Selene’s blood. I try to wipe it off with the back of my hand. “I… I’m okay.” I turn to look back at the body, but Lex is blocking my view.
