“Oh, me too,” I say, then look at Gabriel and Atlas. “What about you guys?”

Atlas shakes his head while Gabriel purses his lips, then goes after Lex.

An hour later, our suite is filled with greasy goodness, and the five of us sit around the dining table filled with food. My stomach grumbles at the savory scents wafting through the air, and I fill my plate with a little bit of everything and my burger.

I shove a handful of fries into my mouth and chew for a few seconds before stopping. They taste… weird. I swallow what’s in my mouth and try biting into an onion ring. Same thing. I drop it into my plate and go for a mozzarella stick, because those never let me down. Even dipping it in marinara sauce doesn’t help.

I sit back and shake my head, shocked when my fangs slide back into my gums. “Why does everything taste weird?”

“Give it some time,” Kade offers. “Things will taste different now, especially while your taste buds adjust. You’ll notice it less and less with each meal.”

“So my taste is different? Will it go back to normal?”

Gabriel nods. “Yes, it’s different, and for the most part, you’ll enjoy human food less than blood, but it won’t always taste as strange as it does right now.”

“Okay,” I grumble, picking up my burger. It looks juicy and delicious, but if it’s just going to disappoint me, I don’t even want to bother biting into it.

“Hang on,” Lex says, getting up and walking to the kitchenette. He opens the fridge and comes back with a blood bag and a glass, tearing the bag open and pouring the blood into the glass. He slides it across the table to me and winks. “This will satisfy you far more than any of the food on the table.”

My fangs pop out again, and I can’t help the shiver that zips through me. They have a mind of their own it seems. I reach for the glass and take a drink. I quickly down half the contents, and what I do next shocks everyone.

Kade recovers first and grins at me. “Did you just—”

“It’s like ketchup,” I interject in a defensive tone, picking up a blood-covered fry and tossing it into my mouth. It actually tastes better this way, and I’m not sure how I should feel about that, but it doesn’t matter. If this allows me to eat normal food and enjoy it, I’m going to keep dipping things in blood.

“Ketchup,” Kade echoes, shaking his head with an amused expression.

I flip him off and grab another fry. As weird as this is—and it is really fucking weird—part of it feels… normal.

After dinner, we wander over to the couch. I tip my head back against the cushion, sighing heavily. I’ve never been so simultaneously wide awake and exhausted, horny and anxious before. I can see and hear things I couldn’t before, and the sensory overload is making my skin tingle.

Kade squeezes my thigh, and I turn my head to look at him. “How are you doing?” he asks, brushing his thumb back and forth.

I shrug, not sure how to put into words what I’m experiencing. He’s gone through it, he understands what’s going on inside me, so I don’t have to tell him.

“You’ll need some time to adjust,” he says. “The emotions and sensations that are overpowering now will become more manageable each day, and you’ll find yourself starting to feel more, well, you again.”

“I am very much looking forward to that.”

“I get that,” he says. “What else are you looking forward to? Aren’t you a little excited to play with your new abilities?”

I press my lips together, mulling over his words. As much as I’ve been stuck in fear mode, worried about hurting innocent people because I can’t control my newfound lust for blood, I haven’t really given myself an opportunity to be excited about the prospects this life offers me. “Yeah, I guess I am.” The super speed and strengtharerather appealing, especially when I’m training with Atlas.

Kade grins. “Don’t worry. I see that look in your eyes. We’re not going to let you hurt anyone, so you can stop freaking out over that, okay? We’ve got you.”

I do find some relief in his words. I trust them. Nodding, I close my eyes, listening to the sounds of the guys’ hearts. Is it freaky that I can hear them so clearly? A little, but it’s also rather comforting.

“Come on,” Kade says, patting my leg.

I groan. “Where?” I am most definitely not in the headspace to go out in public.

Lex chuckles from across the room, and I glance over to find him scrolling on his phone. Atlas and Gabriel slipped out to the terrace, and I’m too scared to try and hear what they could be talking about.

Kade stands from the couch and offers me his hand. I sigh before taking it, letting him pull me up. “What are we doing?” I ask as we walk toward the bedroom.

He squeezes my hand. “I’m going to make you feel better.”

Warmth fills my cheeks and chest—and much lower. I press my lips together, my pulse ticking faster as my breasts tingle, thinking about having sex with Kade at vamp speed.
