Cody must pick up on our amusement because he giggles, saliva dripping down his mouth as he slams his truck down on the plastic in front of him. Zoe and I can't help but laugh harder at that.

"I've got a question," Zoe says after getting serious again.

"Yeah?"

"Are you sleeping with one or both of them?" I can see the amusement in her eyes.

"Why would you ask me that?" I feel my cheeks heat.

"Well, Gavin looked like he wanted to eat you. I'm also assuming Ares didn't give me this money because he's grown a conscience.

I huff and say, "I'm not opening the door on the Gavin thing."

"And?" Zoe quirks her brow, not intending to let me get away with avoiding the part about Ares.

"I don't know what to say about Ares. I honestly don't," I shrug.

"Mmm-hmmm, sounds like you've got it bad," Zoe smiles.

"Of course, I don't!" I answer, my voice raising a bit at the end. I'm staring past her at the picture hanging above her head on the wall.

"You can't even look at me when you say that. It's okay, y'know," Zoe says, dipping the spoon back into the jar.

"What's okay?" I'm puzzled.

"It's fine if you like him, Willow. I've never hated Ares. Though he is such a prick sometimes," she looks at me, sincerity in her eyes.

"I've never understood why he has such an issue with you," I'm avoiding her original question.

I don't know how I feel about him, and today was not the day to explore it.

"I don't know.

I guess he was upset. I got close to his father," she shrugs her shoulder, wiping Cody's mouth with a cloth.

"I'm not sure I get why that is?" I admit.

"Aaron told me once that he took his Mom, leaving hard. He was 6 when she left and never got in touch again. I'm not sure he ever got over that," Zoe reasons.

"Wow, I don't know anything about his family life. Well, I don't know much about him at all," I'm frowning.

Zoe reaches across the table and touches my hand to get my attention. I've been staring at the table without really seeing anything. It startles me that I barely know anything about Ares, and here I am, wanting to rush over to his house. One thing is for sure; I'm confused by my feelings or what the hell Ares even wants.

"So, get to know him," she smiles.

"How can you be so cool about this?" I look at my sister, who seems so much older all of a sudden.

"Losing Aaron made me realize that nothing is certain. I don't think we have the luxury of wasting time," Zoe says quietly.

I leave them a few minutes later with a lot of thoughts churning through my mind.
