I look up to the bright blue sky.

“Thank you, Momma,” I whisper.

The look on Maxi’s face when she saw the bus was priceless.

It takes very little to make her happy.

While she gives the girls a tour of her new toy, I walk over to join the fellas by the grill.

Weston slaps my back. “I swear I thought you were gonna pull out a ring.”

“Me too,” Graham agrees.

“I figured I’d let you and Garrett get hitched before I add one more wedding to plan to Mom’s to-do list,” I tell them.

“Like she’d care,” Graham scoffs.

“So, you do plan to propose,” Langford states.

“One day, when she’s ready. Until then, there’s no hurry.”

Dad clasps my shoulder and gives me a head tilt. He’s been emotional since the wildfire. More so than Mom.

“Did you guys hear the news?” Weston changes the subject.

“What news?” I ask.

“We have a new candidate running unopposed to fill the mayor position in Balsam Ridge,” he says.

“Who?” Langford asks.

He has a particular interest in who takes Mayor Gentry’s place. He has several plans awaiting approval for new housing communities to house staff and tourists for the ski resort. Mayor Gentry is an ally, although there are many people who are against the expansion. They are afraid it will infringe on the quaintness of the valley.

“Isley Paysour,” Weston states.

“No,” Langford snaps.

“Yes.”

Isley Paysour went to school with us, and she was not Langford’s biggest fan, but worse than that, her parents are the loudest voices of opposition for approving the plans for the ski resort.

“Fuck. If she gets elected, all my plans will go to shit. Her parents are too blind to see that the resort and expansion are going to be good for the valley. It will bring much-needed income to the town during the winter months.”

Dad nods. “Looks like someone needs to run against her.”

“Someone has to,” Langford agrees.

Dad grins at him.

“Not me. I don’t have time to run a campaign, much less do the job if I were to win.”

“Then, don’t. Let Isley have it. Then, you’ll have all the time in the world once she kills your dream,” Weston tells him.

“Shit.”

Looks like our big brother is moving up.
