“Afraid so,” I said, twisting my hands. “I didn’t know it was you until last night though. Don’t worry about it. Your mother has voided the contract, and I’m leaving right now.”

I wanted nothing more than to run from the house, but I knew I couldn’t. I literally couldn’t in the bitter cold, so I had to hold my dignity until my ride arrived. I nodded to Victoria and gave my best shot at a smile to his brothers. No longer caring if my makeup was all over my face, I turned toward the foyer to leave.

“You can’t leave.” Parker spoke loudly from the doorway of the living room.

“It’s okay, Parker. Like I said, the contract is voided, and I can leave,” I said without turning to look at him for fear I wouldn’t be able to make myself leave.

“No, you can’t go,” Parker said again.

I turned to him. “Why Parker? I asked. “Just let it go. It’s over. You are released from me.”

“No, Mia, you can’t go,” Parker said softly and walked to stand in front of me. “You have tipped my world upside down, and I have been trying to figure out how to put it right side up again. But I know it’s never going to be right side up without you in my life.”

I stood there, coat in hand, unable to move, not sure I’d heard him correctly.

“You can’t go. I won’t let you. I love you,” he said.

He didn’t say “love,” did he? I have to get out of here. Did he say love?

“How can that be, Parker?” I asked. “I saw how mad you were. Your whole family just witnessed how mad you were.”

“Mia, please don’t go,” Parker begged. “I wanted the contract cancelled because I wanted you, not because I don’t want you. Please understand.”

I was so confused. I needed to run away. I needed to think. I heard a beep of a horn. My cab had arrived. I turned toward the door and grabbed the handle.

“Mia, please don’t go. Please look at me,” Parked said from behind me. “I’m asking you to stay here and love me. Please turn around.”

The sincerity in his voice made me turn. I couldn’t believe my eyes.

Parker was kneeling on one knee with a sparkling Tiffany two carat diamond ring. “Mia Anderson, please do me the honor of being my wife, love me as much as I love you, and spend the rest of our lives together?”

“Really?” I asked, walking back to him with tears pouring down my face. “Yes, Parker, I’ll be your wife. Yes, I will spend the rest of my life with you because I love you too.”
