“Maybe. Tell me already.” I almost yelled.

“Her ex, whose name is Jimmy, wanted nothing to do with Sophie and left her right after Sophie was born,” Parker stated slowly.

“Yeah, yeah, I know something like that. Get to the ‘arrested’ part.” I stepped closer to Parker.

“He’s not a very good person, Trey. When Chloe asked for his support while Sophie was sick, he said no. Then he found out Mia was married to a Hawthorne and Chloe left the country with Sophie. He decided to demand money to not have Chloe arrested.”

“When did you find this out? Why am I just finding this out?” I paced. “I have to call her. I have to help her.”

I walked away from Parker with cellphone in hand, calling Chloe. I didn’t even know if her flight had left yet because I couldn’t stomach the thought of her leaving.

Maybe that’s why she wouldn’t allow herself to love me? Should I possibly hope?

“Trey, you have a bride that you asked for, waiting for you inside.” Parker reached for my cell.

“I have to at least talk to her first. Just give me a minute.” I dialed her number again. “She’s not answering. She would answer if I called. She must be gone.”

“Big brother, for once, listen to me,” Parker said. “Trust me on this. Go inside now. I’ll come with you.”

Chapter 80

Chloe

Isat quietly, waiting on the judge to find my paperwork. I knew I should just go back to Sydney and forget about Trey, but Mia had insisted on me getting my paperwork so I could return easily, and possibly stay longer. I could feel my cell vibrating in my purse. Although the sign when I entered had said “No Cell Phones”, I couldn’t risk Mia not being able to reach me. With a quick peek in my purse, I could see Trey had called me at least fifteen times.

Shoot, could something be wrong with Sophie?

“Excuse me, sir?” I asked the judge. “My daughter has been ill in the hospital, and her pediatrician has tried to call me many times.”

Just a little white lie. Mia would call me if something was wrong.

“Do you mind if I check the message since we’re waiting on my file?” I begged.

“Well, I suppose it wouldn’t hurt,” Judge Caldwell said. “Could you sign this form for me first? It will speed things up. Then hurry, please.”

“Thank you. I’ll just step outside for a moment,” I signed the form where he pointed to then hurried out of the room.

If I can just talk to Trey one more time. If I tell him I love him, maybe he won’t get married.

As I reached for the doorknob, it turned in my hand, and Trey walked through the door with Parker close behind.

“Chloe?! Trey exclaimed in surprise.

“Trey?” I gasped.

“Ah, I see we are all here, finally,” Judge Caldwell said from behind me. “Trey, do come over to my desk. I have a form for you to sign.”

“Parker, what’s going on?” Trey asked.

“I said ‘trust me’,” Parker said with a smirk.

Judge Caldwell banged his gavel. “Victoria do you have the papers?”

“Yes, Albert, and I appreciate you giving us your time,” Victoria walked in behind Parker.

“What papers?” I felt the room spinning.

“Step forward, you two,” Judge Caldwell ordered. “Let’s get you two married.”
