“I assume Macca’s is McDonald’s, and I don’t blame her for being excited. I haven’t had their French fries in years,” Victoria said. “Maybe I’ll text Trey and order some for myself.”

“I’m sure we can make that happen. I heard Trey called for delivery, so I’m guessing he asked his assistant to place the order,” Mia said. “Let me go see if Melissa has her number.” Mia left the room to go find out.

“Don’t be gone long, Mia. I was hoping you might be interested in helping me pick for Trey,” Victoria said with a frown. “I don’t know why I’ve been so indecisive. Picking you for Parker took me all of five minutes.”

I stood up from the bed, gently tucking Sophie back in. “You know, as much as I should pretend I haven’t overheard your discussion, the truth is I have. I wouldn’t mind having something else to focus on, so I could help.”

“Sure.” Victoria patted the empty chair next to her and waved a file in her direction. “Look at this file and let me know what you think.”

The sun had begun to set over the city when Trey and Parker walked through the door carrying big bags of McDonald’s. Sophie had awoken from her rather long nap and was content to stay in bed and watch cartoons. Victoria and the girls poured over the bride files.

“That smells sinful.” Victoria took another long inhale. “I hope you got the additional orders?”

“Oh, we got more than I should be allowing as a cardiologist.” Parker started handing out fries. “However, I do agree it smells great. We can’t do this all the time though, okay Sophie?”

“That’s what Oliver says too, but he’s not a ‘portant doctor like you,” Sophie said around a mouth full of fries.

“Who is this Oliver you keep talking about?” Trey dumped the last of his fries in his mouth.

“He’s a nurse at my other hospital.” Sophie answered as if everyone should have known that already.

“Oh, I see. That explains why he didn’t get you McDonalds.” Trey smiled.

“He said I could have Macca’s after my new heart thing, but then he didn’t get it.” Sophie shook her head. “I didn’t like Oliver as much as Nurse Betty.”

“I understand that. Betty is also my very favorite nurse,” Trey said. “Did you already eat your fries?”

The door opened and one of the nurses brought in a few more chairs. We all sat quietly enjoying eating our fries. It was like Christmas morning. Eventually, I got up to get the burgers and chicken nuggets to pass out when I noticed what the girls had been looking at.

“What are all of you girls looking at over here?” Trey walked closer. “Wow, I feel special to have all of you working so hard for little ol’ me. Hey Parker, just when you thought you were Mom’s favorite, this happens.”

“I’m still Mom’s favorite.”Parker gave Victoria a kiss on the cheek. “Look at this amazing wife she found me. I doubt she can do better than this.”

“Dr. Trey, did you already eat your Macca’s fries?” Sophie asked, sitting up in her bed. “I saved some of my French fries ‘cause I got more sick. Now they got cold.”

“How about if I take your mommy for a little walk outside and we can get everybody fresh, hot McDonald’s?” Trey walked over with his stethoscope and listened to her lungs. “Would that be all right?”

“Who will stay here with me if Mummy goes with you?” Sophie asked, hugging her teddies to her chest.

“What if I stay with you until they get back? I don’t think they’ll be gone for very long, and I brought you a coloring book and crayons.” Victoria pointed to the table in the corner next to the balloons.

“Okay. Are those balloons for me?” Sophie asked, trying to get down from the bed. “Can I play with them? Mummy, can I go over there to my balloons?”

Victoria shooed us out of the room. Mia and Parker stood by the window watching the scene unfold. Victoria looked directly at Parker and pointed to the door.

“Until you two give me a grandchild, I’m going to spoil this little one,” Victoria said. “Your father is at a dinner meeting tonight, so out with you all.”

I picked Sophie up and hugged her tightly to me.

“Mummy, I feel better, and I wanna color with Miss Victoria. Can you go with Dr. Trey and get Macca’s, please?”

“Yes, I’m going already. We’ll be back in a few minutes.” I sat Sophie down in a chair next to Victoria. “You can call me from Victoria’s phone if you need me.”

We all stood at the door watching the prestigious Victoria Hawthorne coloring.

“I feel you watching us. Go on, leave us alone.” Victoria waved us on.

The last thing we all heard was Sophie asking if Victoria was a grandma.
