“What about them?” I asked, looking at my messages.

“Let’s split up and find her.” Sawyer tucked his shirt in better.

“Later, Mom is waving for me.” I walked off to see what she needed.

“Mother, you look wonderful tonight. Are you having a good time?” I kissed her cheek. “Did you get a Santa picture?”

“I got one with your father. That’s a picture I’ll frame, for sure.” We both laughed.

“What did you need me for?” I asked, still looking around the room.

“What doyou want for Christmas, Asher?” She stood next to me, looking over the party guests. “There must be something you secretly want but can’t buy yourself.”

“Oh, I don’t know, Mom. I have everything I need.” I leaned on the railing around the workshop, watching the petite elf. “What do you want?”

“We’re talking about you, so don’t try changing the subject.” Mom elbowed me. “Don’t think, just say what comes to your mind when I ask. What do you want for Christmas this year?”

“An elf,” I answered, then shook my head. “I have no idea where that thought came from.”

“I think you meant a wife, and you spoke from your heart. I’ve been noticing you watching all your brothers with their wives,” Mom said. “Don’t worry. I’ll keep your secret.”

“How did you know Parker was ready for a wife last Christmas?” I asked. “I mean, he didn’t even know.”

“I pay attention,” Mom smiled, “then I used witchcraft.”

“How? Who?” I stuttered. “It was a joke.”

“I know you meant it as a joke, but are you sure it’s not true?” She winked and walked away.

What the heck? Was she joking? I have no proof she just said that. No one will believe me.

Chapter 50

Itook a few more pictures, then made sure to move away before I sent them.

“You haven’t given me any clues yet.”I messaged.

“I was speaking with someone. I’m human, so people talk to me.”He responded.

“People talk to me, also. Mostly into me, but still...”

“That’s not the same.”

“Here we go. Clue number one- I keep going to the workshop.”

“Oh, maybe I need to ask the elves to help me.”He said

“Elves. My Google search says Santa is also an elf. So, are you Santa?”I asked.

Oh my goodness. Is my mystery man Santa Aaron or Santa Eddie? No, couldn’t be. Could it?

“Are you asking Siri for your information?”he asked.

“I don’t need Siri, but it is getting chilly in here. I’m going by the fire.”I replied.

He was gone again. He said he’d be at this party. That would explain why he kept leaving the chat. If he goes to the workshop that could help, but Santa is the only male. I hoped desperately he wasn’t a she and I misunderstood before. I also hoped it wasn’t one of the Santas. They were nice, but not what I was daydreaming about.
