“Dude, your wife is upset with you for being here. The great partier has fallen,” they chirped.

“Nah, she’s not like that. Something must be wrong. I gotta go.” I waved bye to them laughing at me.

The car was still out front with Bond leaning against the door. “She’s upset.”

“I had a feeling. Did something happen at the theatre?”

“Not that I could tell. I shouldn’t have brought her here, but it’s not my job to decide if she can go somewhere unless I think she is in danger.”

“I don’t care that she came here. She did ask me if I was drinking alcohol.” I shrugged. “Funny thing is, for the first time I wasn’t.”

“Climb aboard, maybe she’d like one of those ice cream cones she likes so much,” Bond grinned. “I definitely think she wants one.”

“Sabrina, I can tell you’re upset, what happened?” I asked once I shut the car door. “If it was the guys, don’t concern yourself, they were just joking.”

“Am I still just a favor?’

“A favor? Where did you hear that?” I recalled saying it to the guys as I asked. “Were you in there when I said that?”

“I was. You did not see me yet. I wanted to surprise you.”

“Sabrina, I had to tell them something. It was a bit of an ego thing, which I know is stupid.” I leaned back against the seat. “You already knew I did this to impress my father and do you a favor.”

“I do know that. I guess I thought it had become something more.” She sat up straighter in the seat. “I was more upset about the alcohol.”

“That’s just it. For the first time in ages I wasn’t drinking. You can smell my breath.” We both laughed. “I didn’t want to tell them, so I ordered a drink but kept dumping it.”

“I’m sorry for coming inside there and making you feel uncomfortable.”

“No way, it was me being dumb around them, not you.” I patted her hand on the seat. “I want them to get to know you.”

“Maybe next time I won’t be all emotional.”

“I had no idea you had a problem with alcohol.” I looked at her. “Is it something you want to talk about?”

“It is just a bad memory from my father before I went to live away. When I first went there, I was happy to be away from him being drunk a lot.”

“We have both had bad parenting experiences, but in different ways, and we will get through it.” I pointed out the window. “Bond brought us to the ice cream truck. You ready?”

“I should not be eating ice cream right now.” She shook her head no, all while practically drooling. “You are bad for me with food.”

“Honestly, this was his idea and I think he wants one, which would be your fault,” I said. “You’ve created a monster, now you have to feed it.”

“Very good reasoning. Ice cream it is.”

We all enjoyed an ice cream cone then went back to the penthouse. Sabrina was quiet and I felt bad for making her feel that way. I was really liking having her around. I made some popcorn, which was the one thing I knew how to cook. Or microwave.

“Could I interest you in some low-fat deliciousness?” I shook the popcorn bag.

“Can we have it out on the balcony? I just love looking at the city.”

“You read my mind.” I followed her out. “Do you have many dancers trying out tomorrow?”

“Not really, but fingers crossed and if I do not find one then I will come up with a performance with just me.” She grabbed a handful of popcorn.

We enjoyed chatting for another hour with our popcorn, then Sabrina stretched and called it a night. We’d been together eight weeks now and I realized that I was enjoying having a partner. I liked having Sabrina around.

I like her. When did that happen?
