“Right. I guess this is my cue.” She fumbles in her bag and takes out the envelope.

“What?”We all look from Emma to the group of firefighters, who are taking off their helmets as they make themselves comfortable.

“Please don’t say you’re going to do what I think you’re going to do,” Monika says.

“I guess I am. It’s time to step outside of my comfort zone and face this crazy challenge for which I thank you, Prue.”

Prue chuckles. “I don’t know if you’re being completely sarcastic about it or not, but you’re very welcome anyway.”

Emma takes a big breath of air and turns to make her way to the other table. We just stare.

“I cannot believe she’s doing this.”

“You didnotjust take a picture.”

“Isojust took a picture,” Prue confirms, closing her mouth and patting Monika softly on her hand. “What? She’ll be happy to have some proof of her coolness afterwards!”

“Which one do you think she’ll pick?” Someone asks.

“The blond one,” the other two say at the same time. They’re right. Emma talks briefly to him and we watch as he gets up and follows her to the bar.

“Order drinks.”

“Where are they going?” Monika hisses as they watch the couple walk away from the bar both with a gin and tonic in their hand.

“To the dance floor.”

“There’s a dance floor on the other side?” I ask.

“Yes. It normally doesn’t open until late, but Luigi seems to be in a good mood.” We all watch as the waiter walks ahead with exaggerated gestures, followed by Emma and the fireman.

“Then what are we waiting for?” We hurry toward the other side, where a few people are finalizing preparations for the night. Luigi gestures to the dance floor, then takes off and passes Prue with a wink.

Seduce a hot stranger.

I’m not sure whether I am surprised or shocked. All three of us watch as she murmurs something in his ear before giving him a peck on the lips. She waves at us with bright eyes and a crooked smile. When the music starts, Emma hops on the bar.

“Oh my fucking God, I cannotbelieveshe’s doing this,” Prue whispers in awe.

Dance on the bar.

“Come on girls,” I’m feeling bold and brave. And a bit silly, but the good kind of silly. The kind you want to share with your friends. “Let’s join her!” I get up on the bar and wave at the firefighter who looks both amused and slightly embarrassed.

“Thank you,” Emma mouths, looking less comfortable from up close.

By the time the song finishes, we’re feeling both high and low on adrenaline.

“That was bloody fantastic! Emma exhales. “I never thought I had that in me. I was so nervous.”

“Girl, you just nailed it.”

CHAPTEREIGHT

SATURDAY EVENING - LOGAN

“Ready to go, boss?”

Mason holds open the door of the black Audi R8 and I slide down onto the leather back seat. “I’ve told you a hundred times already, call me by my first name,” I mutter. Mason sits down in the passenger seat next to Ruby, and turns to look over his shoulder, a hurt look on his face. I grunt to myself. What the hell were my parents thinking when they chosethisbodyguard? This young guy is no fun. None, whatsoever.
