“Hey!” Tink slams her fist into his side, but like she was nothing more than a pesky fly, he doesn’t react. He turns back to me and tries to shove me under his arm, but defying orders, Jack pulls me to him and pushes Tink to Mike. Walking forward like a train with blinders on, we make our way through the crowd with mybig-little brother protecting me the way I had no clue he could do.

“Hold on,” he shouts over the roaring of the crowd. An overexcited and obnoxious pap steps in far too close, and lifting his muscle-filled arm from my shoulder, he turns and shoves the guy a full six feet as though he were a bowling ball, and several more paps behind him are the pins. I can practically hear the dramatic sweep in the bowling alley.

He pulls me close and follows Mike and Tink through the front entrance where a wall of more security stand sentry and stop the crowd following us in.

I sag with relief at the deafening silence. The air is crisper in here, the silence a welcome relief. My ears ring from the shouts, and my ribs ache from the repeated elbows.

I turn to watch Iz step in behind us, and what was a smile of relief turns to ice-cold dread at her twisted face and dramatic panting. I push Jack off and rush to her side as her hands come down to clutch her hardening stomach. “Oh no. Oh, Izzy!”

“It’s okay. I’m okay.” She pants and rubs circles into her belly. “Ligament pain. I promise. Bean’s okay, he’s not coming today.” I look from her to Mike - his face white now when it wasn’t outside.

Frantic crowds are cake, but a potentially birthing mother, panic.

“Kit.” Her hand comes up to physically turn my jaw and bring my gaze back to hers. “We’re okay. I promise. He’s still a few months away.”

“You’re freaking me out, Iz.”

“Stop.” She breathes through the O of her lips. “Don’t freak. We need calm. We need to watch the guys.”

“But, what if–”

“Three months, babe. But if I start crowning, you’ll be the first to know.” She takes my hand when her face relaxes. “Come on. We have to go, or we’ll miss the window.”

“The boys want me to bring you straight to the locker room,” Mike says. He nods in the direction we have to go. “Let’s move. Jim’s up in less than half an hour, and he wants to see you guys before he’s in the tunnel.”
