“Yeah, it is. I’m never losing them again, either of them.”

“No, you’re not.” His deep voice is a promise. A declaration. Then he slaps my knee. “Can we go inside? I’d really like to meet my niece.”

“Yeah.” I stand and bring Kit up with me. “Umm, only one of you at a time. Hospital rules, sorry.”

I feel bad for making them choose. I know he has his own issues with letting Kit out of his sight, but I’ve been gone long enough. I need to see my girls.

“You go,” Kit says. “I’ll wait out here for the others.”

“Are you sure, baby?”

“Yeah, I’m sure. I’ll wait for everyone else, then we’ll fight over who gets to go next. But send me a picture as soon as you get in there. I wanna see.”

He smiles and presses a kiss to her brow. He whispers something in her ear I’ll never know, then turning to me, slaps my shoulder. “Alright, Papa Bear.” He’s trying to psyche me up similar to before a fight. Get hyped, lose the tears. “Let’s go meet her.”

I press the buzzer and wait for the automatic doors to slowly swing open. “What did you name her?” Bobby strains his neck to get first glimpse. “Not Bean, right?”
