“Dr. Anderson. His phone number. Now.” My nerves were already frazzled. HearingNeil’svoice on the other end of the line wasn’t helping.

“Who is this?”

JoJo pried the phone from my fingers. “It’s JoJo and Kane.”

I grabbed it back and put it on speaker.

“Jo? Are you all right?” His tone turned tender.

Jo.Ugh. That didn’t suit Barn at all.

“No. Penelope’s been in an accident. I-I need Dr. Anderson’s contact information.” Her voice cracked, but she remained strong. For our daughter.

“Where are you? I’m on my way.”

I cringed. I was already almost at my limit ofNeilfor the day.

“I need that number,” she said desperately.

It sounded as if he set something on a table or desk. “Hang on a sec.”

I tightened my arms around JoJo, who was still ghostly pale. She looked as wretched as I felt.

What is taking him so long?

Penelope was breathing, but it felt as if we were on borrowed time.

“I’m texting it to you now.”

“Send it to this number,” I said gruffly.

“Jo? Is that where you want it?”

I balled my hand into a fist.Doesn’t this guy realize this is an emergency?

“Send it to Kane,” JoJo confirmed. “You’re sending his direct contact, right?”

“Of course.”

My phone pinged with the text notification. I checked to see that it was the doctor’s phone number. When I found that it was, I hung up on Neil and dialed.

JoJo didn’t even scold me.

The phone rang seven times before it went to voicemail.

JoJo found the strength to speak, but that doctor would have a voicemail box full of messages if he didn’t call back soon.

Elliott.

I needed to call Daniel Elliott.

He’d know someone. Or know someone who knew someone.

“I got your bill,” he said by way of greeting.

“I need the phone number of every specialist you can find.” I sounded like a wreck. Iwasa wreck.

“What kind?” The sound of keyboard clacks came through the other end.
