“I’m with your dad on this one, Dixon.” Patrick threw a respectful look in my father’s direction. “Talk to her. See if there’s more to the story. Then you’ll know how to move on.”

The idea was reasonable, but I rejected it. “Whatever the situation, I won’t be responsible for breaking up a marriage.”

“Then forget about her,” Dad said with an edge in his voice. The one reserved for when he thought about my mother.

“Forget about her.” My brother raised his glass.

“Forget about her,” Patrick said, mirroring my brother.

I hesitated. That was the best thing to do. “Forget about her.” I tapped my glass with theirs, knowing it would be impossible.

“You still going to that fundraiser?”Holt asked innocently as we stumbled out of the exit onto the sidewalk.

“I don’t know.”

“I’m coming home with you. Marlow will kill me if I show up at her place loaded.” His phone rang. “Speaking of.”

He sobered a little after the conversation.

“What’d she say?” I slurred.

“She’s coming over to your place.”

She is?My sister could be scary when she wanted to be.

“Then I am too,” Dad said from behind us.

“Might as well keep the party going,” Patrick chimed in. “Call her back. See if she’ll bring food.”

“Have you met my sister?” Holt asked incredulously. “She’ll kick me in the nuts if I ask her that.”

“I’d pay good money to witness that.” Patrick laughed, and Dad scowled at him.

“Dad, you do it. She won’t turn you down,” Holt said.

“The hell she won’t. She never does a damn thing I say.” He paused, frowning. “Come to think of it, she hasn’t since the day she was born.”

“That leaves you, Dixon,” Patrick said, looking at me.

Holt’s eyes brightened. “You’re the best shot. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that.”

“Because you’re lit,” I tossed back. The idea warmed in my head. I knew my sister would do anything I asked. “Give me your phone.”

I held out my hand and dialed four different people before Patrick took the phone out of my hands and got it right.

“Marlow. It’s Patrick, love. I’m with all your family here, but Andrew wants to talk to you.” He recoiled at her response, looking a little terrified.

I snickered, and Patrick gave me a look to shut it as he passed the phone to me.

“Hey, sissss,” I slurred.

“Don’t you hey sis me,” she snapped. “How long have you been drinking?”

“Since today.” I stumbled but caught myself before I hit the concrete.

“Andrew.”

“You’re scary sometimes.”
