“Yeah. Needs a little work, but it’s fantastic.”
“He insists on giving the building to me, but we can’t take it.” Her hair swished as she shook it.
“We can’t stop him if that’s what he wants to do,” I said. “But if you want to pay him back, we’ll do it.”
“I don’t have that kind of money.”
“We probably won’t have to pay what it’s worth, but something tells me if we take cake to the negotiation, he’ll cave to whatever we want.” I winked at her, but her lower lip poked out in a pout.
“I can’t let you pay for the restaurant.” Her chin lifted, and I stifled a smile.
“I’mnot.” I cupped the back of her head and touched my nose to hers. “We are.”
“Andrew.”
“Bright Side.”
“I’ve had so much help along the way. And I wouldn’t turn it down just because of pride. But it’s important to me to do this on my own.”
“And I’m going to support you in every way I can.” I kissed the corner of her mouth. “We’re not individuals anymore. We’re a team.”
“Elemental,” she whispered.
“Exactly.”
“I love you. I never thought I’d have that. But you gave it to me,” she said hoarsely.
My eyes stung with the kindest words anyone had ever spoken to me. “Trish,” I breathed, at a loss.
“Thank you.”
I cupped her face. “No. No. No. It’s me who should be thanking you. I’m complete for the first time in my life. You and Ella have taught me what it means to love someone more than myself. That I can love and I won’t get hurt. I trust you. With everything.”
She brushed her lips against mine. “What if you hadn’t saved me from that parking ticket?”
I swiped my thumb across her cheek. “But I did. And now we have our family.”
She blinked at me as if the words were still too good to be true. Sometimes they felt like they were, but it didn’t make them any less true.
“Now we’re a family,” she repeated in wonder before she rolled up on her toes until her mouth was next to my ear. “And I want us to grow. I want us forever.” I smiled because my heart was so full.Forever.
“Then forever it will be. You’ll always own my heart.”
