“Am I crushing you?”

“I like it.”

“But Gummy.” I popped up and took us both to the floor.

“She’s fine.”

Once her back was to my chest, I rested my chin on her shoulder. This. This was home.

Chapter Forty-Six

Marlow

“Where’s Andrew?”

“Not coming.” Holt’s mouth flattened.

“Because of me?”

He glanced back and forth between Patrick and me. “Both of you, I think.”

Patrick rubbed his jaw. I saw red. “He can’t punch you and then just not show up to Sunday dinner.”

“You did the same thing. Yours were just verbal jabs.” He held out a chair for me.

Holt tipped his beer toward him. “Well said.” Then he frowned. “Hold up a minute. Andrew punched you?”

“Still hurts.”

“Oh get over it,” I said, grabbing his hand. “We’re going to get him.”

“We are?”

“Isn’t that what I said?”

“Would that have worked with you?”

“Do you ever stop talking?”

“What was I doing yesterday in my office?” He winked at me.

“Will you be quiet?” I jerked my head toward my family.

“Seriously, man. I do not want to think about you and my sister having sex.” Holt grimaced.

“They are not having sex.” Dad pointed his wine glass.

“Then how’d she get knocked up?”

“Same as I told you when you asked before. The stork put a baby in her belly.”

“Dad, I think we all know that’s not what happened,” I said.

“Who cares as long as we get our Gummy.” Patrick squeezed my shoulders.

I couldn’t help but smile. And then everyone at the table looked at me as if they’d never seen me before.

“Let’s all go.” Baker stood and put on her coat. “We haven’t ordered anything but appetizers, so we’ll get them boxed up.”
