“So what? He retaliated by setting Grey Paws on fire?”

He’d never liked me. It wasn’t a secret. Firing me was one thing. Attempted murder was another.

“He nearly killed you.” I didn’t recognize my own voice. It was feral.

Before I could think, my feet were moving.

He nearly killed her. Killed them.

Lincoln would tell me to build a solid case and nail him. And he would probably be right.

But I didn’t have time to do that.

I’d already tried and convicted him in my mind.

I reared back and landed a blow to his face so hard he fell to the ground. The crowded park went silent as I stood over him with my foot on his chest.

“I want to hear it,” I hissed.

“You’re fired.” He smirked.

I applied more pressure to his chest, and it quickly faded.

“Chief promote you to fire inspector?” I flexed my fist, itching to land another hit.

Koker’s eyes flared, but there wasn’t a single ounce of regret in them.

“Hollingsworth!” Burke yelled.

I felt a swarm behind me, but my focus was solely on this murdering sack of garbage.

A hand landed on my shoulder. Then another.

“Think about this,” Walsh said. “You’ll be done.”

I didn’t care. I wanted Koker done.

“Tell. Me.” The demand was harsh. Anger like I’d never felt erupted. I stomped on his stomach.

“Ugh.” He tried to curl up in pain, but I made him take it.

That was nothing compared to finding Pepper, Miss Adeline, and the dogs surrounded by fire and nearly dead.

“Teague.” Pepper appeared, standing near Koker’s head. She wasn’t telling me to stop or go. Just to think. And whatever I decided, she was behind me.

The calm in the chaos.

“I’m not moving until he’s arrested.”

She nodded. He’d almost taken her away from me. I didn’t want him to rot in jail. I wanted to kill him. But I wouldn’t let him ruin the life I was building with Pepper.

That didn’t mean I couldn’t hit him again for good measure.

I kicked him in the ribs. It wasn’t enough. My grasp on control was slipping.

He nearly killed Pepper.

This SOB was going to jail in pain.
