No.

He’d been so careful. Protective. He’d always made me feel safe. And loved.

Never once had he pushed for more than I was ready for. He’d respected my needs above his own.

It was why I’d trusted him with my body.

Now it belonged to him.

So did my heart.

And he was ripping it to shreds.

“Why are you doing this?” I whispered.

We were right together. He filled a piece of me I hadn’t known I was missing.

“One day you’ll thank me.”

The hollowness of the words carried a weight that nearly crippled me.

“Stop.”

He let out a long, annoyed sigh. “Don’t get stubborn on me. I know you have to have things your way, but this time you don’t get to choose.”

I never got to choose.

Not what I did, how I dressed, who I loved.

It was all done for me.

Garrett hadn’t given me a choice when it came to him. I’d fallen hard and fast before I could even think about it.

Just like everything else, I had no say when it was done.

Because Garrett wasn’t a dead end for me. He was the beginning.

“Did my brother say something to you?”

He rolled his eyes. “No, Teague didn’t say anything. And don’t worry. I’ll keep our little secret safe.”

His voice was a knife, cutting tiny slices over my whole heart. I was bleeding out and there was nothing I could do.

The pain was too much to stand and my anger took over to mask it.

“I hate you for this.” I spoke low and feral. “Don’t bother crawling back when you realize what you just threw away.”

He hadn’t crawled back.Stupid me had thought he would. Prayed he would. How could he stand the misery?

Except he didn’t feel what I had.

I’d been in the relationship alone when I thought we were partners. He’d made a fool of me.

And if I’d have stayed in this city, I’d have drowned. I couldn’t be that close to him.

My desperation to get away had given me the drive to convince my father to let me expand our company in Europe.

I hadn’t looked back.
