He was so not the sort of man she usually dated.

One, he was royal. Two, he was arrogant. Three, he was younger than her. Four, he was a workaholic. Five, he wanted children.

The last caused a twinge in the area of her heart she’d long thought atrophied.

Jenna had stopped grieving what could have been before she’d even let herself start.

“What is the matter?” he asked.

“Nothing. Well, other than the obvious.”

“You looked sad for a moment.”

She shrugged. “It’s nothing.”

“If it upsets you, it is not nothing.”

“Nice sentiment. Too bad you didn’t stick by it last night.”

“I should have told you about the possible spy in your life before we had sex.” He spoke stiffly, like admitting wrong did not come easily to him.

Only she knew that Dima was better at it than his brothers, at least from what she’d seen. Not that he had much experience admitting mistakes.

He didn’t usually make them.

He had last night, though. A big one. And ithadhurt her. “Yes, you should have.”

“I will not make the same call again.”

“Good to know.” Though how that applied to her, she had no idea, considering the deed was done.

His own nod was decisive. “My security team has had no luck so far tracing the surveillance equipment back to its source.”

“I spoke to my boss, and we will be confiscating Skylar’s laptop as soon as she arrives in the building.” While they’d agreed to meet that morning to discuss how to handle the fallout, that had already been settled during their earlier phone call. “It’s the property of the magazine and isn’t supposed to have anything private on it, but everyone uses their work laptops for their home stuff too.”

Jenna had no doubts that proof of her assistant’s spying would be found on that laptop.

If she was wrong, she would apologize, but her instincts were telling her she wasn’t. So many things that in and of themselves had not triggered wariness in Jenna now looked suspect in retrospect.

“Is this true?” he asked. “We have the same policy at Mirrus Global, and I assumed employees followed it.”

“Uh...how do I point out that most people don’t have the financial means to buy a second computer when they have one supplied from work? There’s always something else the money needs to go to.”

“You do not have a private system?” he asked, sounding shocked.

“Of course I do. Nataliya is my BFF. Long before she became a princess, then queen, she insisted I have the most up-to-date technology for personal use. I end up using my personal computer for work stuff because it’s faster and more secure.”

He nodded, like he approved.

Jenna didn’t even try not to roll her eyes. “Believe it or not, I’m not really worried what you think of my tech practices.”

He laughed. “You are so damn refreshing, Jenna.”

“Because I don’t care what you think?”

“I’m not sure that is entirely true, but yes. Because you are not and have never been in awe of my family.”

“You’re the family of my BFF. If I was in awe of you, it would be awkward for her and me.” And Jenna wasn’t letting any awkwardness get between her and Nataliya.
