“Really? You’ve worked really hard to stay out of them, especially since Galena’s very public split with you.”

“None of us likes to be featured in the gutter press, but I’m not going to live my life by giving up what I want to avoid it.”

“Clearly, or you wouldn’t be going to Abu Dhabi with me.”

“Exactly.”

“Still, a lover is not the same thing as a potential partner.”

“Sometimes they are one and the same.”

“Well, now is not one of those times.”

“So you say.”

“And so you should know as well, Dima. I can’t give you children, and even if I could, I wouldn’t want my children growing up in a palace.”

“I do not live in a palace. I live in a penthouse.”

She opened her mouth to argue, but he forestalled her with a kiss.

A very nice, thought-stealing move of his lips over hers with just a tiny swipe of his tongue along the seam of her lips before he pulled back. “Kon and Emma do not live in a palace either.”

“They do part of the year.”

“They visit Mirrus. That is not the same thing.”

“If you say so.”

“I do.”

“Okay.”

“You can be maddening, Jenna.”

“You think so? I thought I was just being pragmatic.”

He shook his head, but he didn’t say anything. Just stood up, lifting her with him, and headed out of the room.

“Where are we going?”

“I would like it to be bed, but in fact we are headed for the observation deck. Your harbor cruise has started.”

The yacht was moving, and Jenna hadn’t even noticed, she was so intent on her conversation with Dima.

He let her down when they reached the deck. A voice sounded over the state-of-the-art speaker system, giving a running commentary on the landmarks that could be seen from the water as well as tidbits of New York history she had never heard.

She and Dima stood at the rail for the first hour, taking everything in, but eventually they moved to sit together on an outdoor love seat, where they sipped their bubbly water and enjoyed the views while their bodies touched from shoulder to thigh.

It was odd.

And Jenna wasn’t sure how she felt about that. Nataliya was bound to learn about the shared vacation.

Jenna had a hard time believing Dima was willing to feature in gossip columns for the chance at spending this time together.

And yet, hadn’t he said he would be working her out of his system?

“What other objections do you have to a relationship with me?” he asked, like their conversation had not paused for the tour.
