“All the ones I know of do it now.” All the ones she’d researched for both her charges when she’d been a nanny and those schools she’d looked into for Mickey.

“That is sweet.”

“Mickey’s really excited about it.”

“I know.”

Emma smiled. They’d both heard how excited their son was about the ceremony. Even the prospect of leaving his beloved teacher behind wasn’t dimming his enthusiasm.

But then he had a father now, someone who took precedence over Mr. Leeds.

“I need to get to my own bed. Thank you for letting me cry all over you.”

“Thank you for showing me the honor of trusting me with your tears.”

Emma wasn’t sure if she’d trusted him so much as hit her limit and he’d been there for the fallout. She didn’t disillusion him, however. Kon seemed too happy to think she’d cried on him on purpose.

She went to slide from the bed, but Kon was there.

He kissed her lips until she was panting and then moved down to that spot behind her ear. “We’re not done, I don’t think.”

And they weren’t. They made love again, and this time he set the pace, seemingly determined to wring every last ounce of pleasure from Emma’s body.

It was all she could do not to fall into a comatose sleep after, but Emma made it back to her own room and her own bed, only to immediately miss Kon and his warmth.

But their son didn’t need to get any more ideas than he already had about them, she reminded herself.

Sleep was a long time coming.

The next two weeks flew by, Kon working a little more than he had when he’d stayed at her house, Emma finishing up her notice and then overseeing the movers Kon had hired to pack her and Mickey’s things to ship to Seattle.

They kept some favorite toys and books, and, of course, clothes for the remainder of their time in Santa Fe and for use on their trip to Mirrus.

Not as many clothes as she’d planned because Kon insisted on buying both her and Mickey wardrobes more appropriate for the colder climate of Mirrus. It might be summer, but he informed them both they would need warmer clothes.

Kon even ordered Mickey two suits tailored to fit their son perfectly even though he would probably grow out of them in a matter of months.

“Why does Mickey need suits?” Emma asked in bemusement as her son showed as much excitement over the formalwear as he had the new game system Kon had purchased.

“He’ll wear one to graduation.”

“Yes, and?”

“I’ll be like Dad!” Mickey said excitedly. “I’ll look so fly for my graduation and to meet the King.”

“Fly?” Emma asked.

“Another word we can probably thank Mr. Leeds for.”

“Oh.” Her son was growing so fast and changing even faster. “Mickey, you want to wear suits?”

“I’m an earl, Mom. I need to look like Dad.”

Emma held back her grimace at the noble title. Mickey said it the same way he announced he was four years and three-quarters. With pride and practicality.

It just was.

Something else that just was? The incredible sexual intimacy between Kon and Emma. He might be working more now, but he’d still managed to take advantage of time alone in the house without Mickey while their son was at preschool on several occasions.
