I slap my hand against the touch pad, stopping the glorious flow of water that is just as religious of an experience as I expected it to be.

I step out and snag a towel, drying off as I go back into Andre’s room.

The walls in here are all deep plum except for the one behind his bed. That wall is paneled with wood the same color as the bathroom floor. Everything in the room is extravagant, from the carpet to the hand painted ceiling depicting the canopy of a lush forest.

And the bed.

The bed is magnificent.

It’s huge. Canopied. Draped in rich brocade and velvet.

It’s yet another stunning room that I could stare at for hours.

It’s probably better that his home was dark the first night I was here. This place shows just how wealthy Andre is, and I was already intimidated enough. I probably would have passed out before he even walked in the room.

But I think desperation is changing how I look at things because now that visible wealth makes my next decision easier.

Twenty thousand dollars is nothing to this man.

And everything to me.

Andre already offered me more than that to pretend to be his girlfriend, but he hasn’t really matched a payment schedule with that plan.

So that’s what I’m going to do tonight. Figure out how to get an advance.

I pull on the pants he gave me, rolling up the waistband until they don’t completely cover my feet, then I wiggle into the shirt, tucking the front into the pants so it won’t hang to my knees. Nothing about any of it comes close to fitting me. I look like a marshmallow made of expensive lounge wear, but I’m warm.

And not naked, which is probably good since things seem to get a little out of hand when I’m naked in front of Andre.

I grab Madison’s shoes and what remains of her lingerie before peeking out into the hall, listening for any sign of what Andre might be doing.

But I’m met with silence.

I creep out, my bare feet quiet as I make my way past closed doors and darkened rooms, ignoring the curiosity that tempts me to sneak a look at those hidden bits of Andre’s world.

I’ve got a goal. One with a looming deadline. I can be nosy later.

The door to his office is open and I hold my breath as I get closer, craning my neck to sweep my gaze into the space he seems to spend most of his time in.

I look toward his desk first. It seems like the most logical place for him to be.

But Andre’s desk is vacant, forcing me to take another step to see the rest of the room.

I almost expect him to be pacing. Irritated at how long it took me to follow his order.

Instead Andre is sitting in one of the heavy leather chairs stationed at each side of the small table beside the window, his black eyes staring vacantly at the marble chess set in front of him.

For the first time ever Andre looks a little lost.

A little unsure.

It’s an odd sight. One that pulls me closer. “Do you want someone to play with?”

His eyes slowly lift to find me.

I point to the board in front of him. “You were focusing awfully hard for someone who doesn’t have an opponent.”

Andre’s gaze goes to the chess set before coming back to me. “You know how?”
