Andre’s assessing gaze holds a second longer before his face splits into the most genuine smile I’ve ever seen on the man. “You must be my Paisley’s mother.”

His Paisley?

“I—” My mother leans a little to one side, the bat dropping from her hands. “I—”

Then she collapses.

“YOU CAN’T JUST packmy whole life up and move it.” I chase behind Andre as he directs the men milling around my apartment.

“It seems like I can.” He snaps his fingers as one of the guys steps into my room. “No one goes in there but me.”

The surly looking man gives him a nod and goes in to help the men collecting my mother’s things.

She’s propped back up in bed, sitting exactly where Andre left her after he managed to catch her as she dropped, looking a little too happy about all of this.

Andre snags one of the men as they walk past. “Bring Paisley a box so she can pack up what she wants to bring tonight.”

“This is insane, Andre.” I trail him as he grabs the box from the man and carries it into my room. “You can’t just force me to move in with you.”

“Moving in with me was always part of our deal, Duchess.” He sets the box on the tiny bit of available floor space beside my bed. “Now I know why you were dragging your feet and I’ve remedied the situation.”

“My mother is sick, Andre.” the words catch in my throat. “I can’t just move her from place to place like this.”

His gaze comes to rest on my face. “Not place to place. Just from here to my home.”

“But what happens when our thing is finished?” I keep my voice quiet enough my mother won’t hear. “Then I have to move her again.”

Andre’s eyes drag to the doorway of my mother’s room. “Paisley—”

I hold one hand up. “Don’t say it. Don’t you dare fucking say it.” I won’t let him even put that shit into the universe. “She’s starting a drug trial Monday. It’s going to make her better.”

Andre’s head barely tilts to one side. “She was accepted into a drug trial?”

I lift my chin. “Yes.”

I’ve told so many lies since my mother got sick that this one rolls right off my tongue.

Andre steps close, leaning into my ear. “You’re lying to me again.” His palm slides up my spine before curving around the back of my neck. “I won’t tolerate being lied to, Paisley.” His lips move over my skin, nipping at the spot just under my ear. “I still haven’t forgotten the last lie you told me.”

I shiver, unable to keep myself from remembering what happened last time Andre confronted me about a lie he believed I told.

Which wasn’t technically a lie. “I didn’t lie to you.” I close my eyes as his mouth trails along the side of my throat. “I wasn’t supposed to work last night. Someone called in sick.”

He hums a sound of acknowledgement against my skin. “And you were the one they called to fill in?”

“I asked for the shift.” My fingers grasp at the front of his jacket as Andre pulls the neckline of my dress to one side, exposing my collarbone to the heat of his mouth. “And Vi gave it to me.”

“You should have told me.” The hand on my front slides lower to skim across my breast. “I want to know where you are. Always.”

“That makes you sound like a stalker.” I whimper when his thumb and fingers pinch my nipple, teasing it through the borrowed dress.

“I like to keep track of what belongs to me.” He continues teasing my nipple with an expert touch. “And you belong to me.”

It’s nothing I ever would have thought I’d like hearing.

Definitely nothing I thought would make my pussy clench, but here I am.
