“Of course.” Her fingers fly across the screen, no doubt directing an assistant to have copies waiting for me when I get there.

“I have a couple of scripts I’d like to add to the pile,” I say, keeping my tone casual.

“Do you want me to get my team to print copies?” she asks, doing a decent job of hiding her surprise. I have an uphill battle ahead of me if I want to pull this off.

“Not necessary. I can take care of it from here.” The hotel’s business center should have everything I need to print several copies. If not, I’m sure I can find an office supply store nearby.

“You’re staying here?” she asks.

“For now. I’ll look for something to rent tomorrow. Let me know if you have any leads.” Ideally something close to her if we’re going to be working long days on this.

“I will,” she promises, getting up.

“Great. I’ll see you in the morning. And Fiona, it was good to see you again. You look well,” I say, standing up myself.

Her cheeks turn an adorable shade of pink. Her gaze turns briefly to her shoes before she looks up, a confident smile on her face. “Thank you. You do, too.” She takes a step closer and puts her hand on my cheek. Before I can take another breath, it is gone. And so is she.

“Knock, knock.” Joe stands in the doorway, holding a large brown paper bag in one hand and two coffee cups in the other one, balancing them on top of each other.

“Let me help you with that.” I rush over and take the cups from him before he spills them all over the office.

“Thanks. I brought donuts. Wasn’t sure how many of us there’d be.” He holds out the bag. It’s one of those large study bags with twine handles. A stack of papers held together with binder clips sits inside on top of two boxes from a local donut shop.

“How large do you think C&C Productions is?” I ask, biting back a smile, looking at Cara at the front desk and the few other people around.

Joe shrugs. “I have no idea. Not as big as I thought, apparently. Who’s working on this project you’re dying to bring me in on?”

“So far? You and me. At least until we find a script.” I pull the papers out of the bag and add them to the stack of scripts I have waiting for him.

“And I’ll be here to help in any way I can. I’m Cara Bennet.” She holds her hand out to him.

“Thank you, Cara. Donut?” He opens the first of the boxes.

“Don’t mind if I do.” Cara bats her eyelashes and takes much longer than necessary to choose a pink glazed one with white sprinkles.

I roll my eyes. “Ready to get to work?”

“Sure. Where do you want to do this?” He puts both boxes of donuts on my desk.

I move them to one of the empty ones and grab the scripts. “Follow me.”

Joe grabs both coffee cups and follows me to the writer’s lounge.

“It’s a quiet place to work. Plus, the chairs and couches are comfortable.”

“Nice. This is for you. Decaf.” He holds one of the large paper cups out to me.

“Decaf? That’s not gonna work.” I snatch the second cup from his hand and take a cautious sip. It’s strong and sweet. I’d love a splash of soy milk in it, but this will do.

“I thought regular coffee was too strong for you. That it keeps you from falling asleep.” He looks stunned.

“At night. I don’t drink anything with caffeine after about four in the afternoon.” I glance at the clock on the wall. It’s five till then. He got here early. I’m impressed, considering how often we were late for class because he was my ride and notorious for oversleeping.

“Alright, then. I won’t make that mistake again.” He takes the three scripts he brought from the top of the stack and hands them to me, taking the rest to the large three-seater couch sitting against the wall.
