I find her in the group and she looks up at me, and in that moment, when our eyes meet, I know without a doubt, it’s time. Everything I needed to see is in her eyes, and I’m no longer worried about what I’m going to say. I look at Todd and nod my head so he knows it’s about to happen.
I walk over to Quinn and lean down to give her a quick kiss for good luck even though she has no idea.
“Can I get everyone’s attention?” I say loud enough for everyone to hear. The group turns to look at me and gets quiet. I look around and feel so much love for both me and Quinn.
“First of all, I want to say happy birthday to the girl who’s stolen my heart.” I turn and grab Quinn’s hand while she smiles at me, her cheeks pinking up since I made her the center of attention.
“From the moment I met you, right here in this backyard, I knew you’d be special to me. I remember wanting to follow you around that party like a love-struck puppy. You were magnetic, you drew people to you not because you were the new girl but because you made them feel like they were the only person in the world. You give and don’t expect anything in return, and you’ve made my life so much brighter than I ever thought was possible.”
I get down on one knee, and I hear gasps coming from those who didn’t know this was happening. Quinn’s hand flies to her mouth, and I see tears gather in her eyes. “I love you so much, and I want to spend every day of the rest of my life with you. Would you do me the honor of being my wife?”
“You want me to be your wife?” Quinn asks, making me laugh because she always repeats the question any time I ask her something major.
“Completely. So, what do you say?”
I grin at her, and she flings her arms around my neck, almost making me fall over.
“Yes, absolutely yes!”
I hear everyone cheer, and I think Hailey says, “I told you so.” But all I can see is Quinn as I pull back and grab her hand, putting the oval solitaire diamond ring on her finger. She holds her hand out to look at the ring and then looks back up at me, love shining in her eyes.
“Ready to start our forever?” I ask, and she nods her head, a smile so big stretched across her face.
“Forever,” she says, and I kiss her with that promise on our lips.
