“You can make quite a bit of money on black market drugs,” Coopers responds.

“But it’s a sedative, not a narcotic.”

“You’d be surprised.” Cooper raises an eyebrow.

“Was enough stolen to knock out an adult?” Adam asks.

“More than. But you’d need to know the right dosages to knock out a human without killing them.” I shrug my shoulders.

“And Michelle would likely understand the dosage required,” Cooper says, continuing Adam’s thought. “Can you pull up her employee file?”

After pulling the file, I hand the laptop back to Cooper. “None of this makes sense. If Michelle is the one who abducted her, is she also the one who’s been stalking her?”

“Potentially. I’ve got my guys running her information now.” Cooper slides his phone back into his pocket.

“But it was definitely a man who attempted to take her the first time. I know that for a fact.” The dude was jacked; there’s no way that was Michelle.

“Maybe we’re dealing with two different people,” Adam suggests.

Cooper’s face turns grave. “Or they’re working together.”

“Surprise!” Michelle grins, sauntering over to the bed. She sits down next to me while Gabe stands at the foot of the bed, happy as can be.

“I…I don’t understand,” I stutter.

“What do you mean? We’ve been planning this for ages.” Michelle frowns, as if I’m missing something obvious.

“Planning what?”

“Ohhhh. How silly of me. Those drugs probably muddled your mind.” She glares at Gabe, who flinches under the scrutiny. “I didn’t want to use the drugs on you, but Gabe insisted. Said it was the only way to get you here.” She rolls her eyes. “Boys. So illogical.”

Now my brows furrow at her words. From our conversation before, I highly doubt Gabe was the one who insisted. Instead of contradicting her, I go with her crazy pants idea. “I do feel pretty cloudy right now.”

“Gabe, go get her a glass of water.”

He dutifully leaves the room, leaving the two of us alone.

“Such a little puppy, I swear. Anyway. You and I have been planning this escape for a while now. We’re going to be a family, the three of us. You’re my sister, my best friend. Gabe loves you, too. We’ll have the best life.”

My jaw starts to drop open, but I catch it before I give away my shock at her words. She sits there smiling at me, completely unfazed by this whole situation.

“What about my fam—my other family? My brothers? They’re all going to worry about me.”

“Psh. They don’t care about you.” She grins. “Only I do, remember? Your brothers are a bunch of idiots. They only care about themselves.”

Her statement echoes words I’ve said when I was at my peak annoyance with them.

Does she really think because I complained about my family to her, that they don’t love me?

“What about your family?”

“You know I only have Gabe. Obviously, he’s not a state away from me. That was a lie. My parents are dead, though. They sucked, so I made sure they couldn’t do anything bad ever again.” She shrugs her shoulders.

Oh, fuck. Did she just imply she killed her own parents? Who the hell have I been hanging out with?
