We enjoyed several performances on the stage. One was a children’s African dance troupe with kids as young as three years old. The three-year-old was keeping up with the older kids. It was very entertaining.

“See, I want things like this at the center,” Keeva leaned in and said during the performance.

“That would be dope,” I replied.

A jazz quartet performed and Key let me hold her as we rocked to the music. The day was turning out to be a great one.

“Hey y’all!”

I heard someone call from behind me. I turned around and saw Cam, Keeva’s stylist and friend walking towards us.

“Hey,” Keeva stood to hug Cam.

“Hey, Kerem,” Cam smiled.

“What’s up, Cam,” I said after standing to offer her my seat.

“No, thank you, Reem. I just wanted to say hello,” Cam said. “I stood in line over there forever to get this pitcher of lemonade that I am going to take home and enjoy.”

“We got some lemonade too, but we got a cup of it. How did you get a pitcher?” Keeva asked.

“Cause I got it like that,” Cam smiled. “Naw, for real, one of the workers is my client, and she promised me a pitcher of it.”

“Oh, I was finna say,” Keeva laughed.

“Guess who started following me on Instagram and DM’d me?” Cam asked.

“Morris?” Keeva asked.

“No, but that would be nice too. Lyrica!”

“Shut-up! She doesn’t follow anyone!”

“I know! She sent me a DM and asked for my phone number. I thought someone was playing with me cause you know how people set up fake profiles for celebrities. Then she said that she wanted to thank me again for saving her wig. I knew it was her, so I gave her my number. She called me, and her number wasn’t blocked!”

“You are lying!” Keeva said.

“Nope, I’m not. She said that her wig stayed in place like I said it would, and she was impressed with my work. She said that she may have an opportunity coming up for me if I would be willing to travel,” Cam explained.

“What did you say?” Keeva asked.

“I tried to be all nonchalant even though I was going crazy on the inside. I said that I ran a hair business and I have a full client roster, but if I can get the information in enough time, I could move some things around to travel,” Cam finished.

“That’s what I’m talking about!” Keeva said then high-fived Cam.

“Yeah, I didn’t want to sound all anxious and crap but if she calls, guess who will be on the next thing smoking? Me!” Cam laughed.

“Congratulations, Cam,” I said.

“Thanks, Reem,” she smiled.

“Are you enjoying the festival?” Cam asked Keeva.

“It’s been nice. The stilt people still freak me out a little,” Keeva chuckled.

She was referring to themoko jumbie, men who wore ornate masks and costumes and danced around the pavilion area on stilts. She’d been freaked out by them for as long as we’d been together.

“Wud? That’s my favorite. Who doesn’t love a tall, well-dressed man,” Cam giggled.
