“Like I just said, I’m not about to let you make them sad. I will tell them you won’t pick them up after their dance class.”

“Moe, I…” Bee started.

“Daddy, that bathroom is nice,” Fee said while scooting back into the booth.

“Bye,” I said before, disconnecting the call.

“Daddy, can I show you the invitation now?” Skye asked.

“Sure,” I responded even though I’d already made my mind up. They were not going.

Skye reached into her backpack and retrieved a yellow and green envelope withSkylar Owensneatly printed on the front.

I opened the envelope and read the details of the invitation.

“Ain’t it so exciting, Daddy? There were a lot of girls that didn’t get invited because her mommy said she could only have ten, and she chose me and Fee! She said on Friday night it will be movie and popcorn night. Saturday we are doing manicures and pedicures, then we are going to the Kids Bop concert. Sunday is lunch together. Doesn’t that sound like so much fun?” Skye said.

“EEEKKK!!!” Fee shrieked.

“Here is your food,” the waitress smiled after placing our plates in front of us.

“Thank you,” I returned the smile.

“Your daughters are beautiful,” the waitress smiled.

“Yes, they are. Thank you,” I responded.

“So is their dad,” I heard her say as she walked away.

I tried not to react to her comment, but Fee heard her.

“Daddy, that lady was flirting with you,” Fee smirked.

“No, she wasn’t,” Skye rebutted.

“What do you two know about flirting?” I asked.

“Daddy,” Skye said with exhaustion in her voice. “We watch TV. We know what flirting is. That lady was not flirting with Daddy. He’s a dad! Girls don’t flirt with dads.”

“Uh hun cause I heard Kelly’s momma tell Tristian’s momma that he was cute,” Fee explained.

“That is so gross,” Skye said while mimicking a vomit. “They both are too old to be talking like that.”

I was trying to remember who Kelly and Tristian’s mothers were.

“What is old to you, Skye?” I asked.

She responded immediately, “I mean like twenty-five is getting up there.”

“I’m older than twenty-five, so I’m old?”

“I mean, you are a dad!” Skye said before taking a bite out of her grilled cheese sandwich.

Fee nodded her head in agreement.

The waitress’s flirting took the girls minds off the party invitation, giving me time to further create my denial speech for the girls.
