“We’ve all dealt with sneaky bitches, but I don’t think it’s sneaky or underhanded to have a discussion with Morris about the situation,” Keeva said.

“If he’s in a relationship, strained or not, I’m not going to interfere. I won’t lie and say that I don’t want him, but I can’t have him right now, and that’s that.”

After leaving work and picking up the girls from school, we went home to change to prepare for dinner with the Chadwicks.

After my conversation with Sallie, I asked Countee,Valentine and Belle’ssecurity officer, to run a background check on the Chadwicks. He told me that he had done some work forChadwick Buildersand knew them personally. His vouching for them settled my mind somewhat.

I made the mistake of telling the girls that we would be going to Patty’s for dinner. They drove me crazy with questions. “What time are we going over their house?” “What should we wear?” “What food are they cooking?” “Will we have time to play with Patty?” I was so glad the day had arrived.

“Come on, girls, let’s go so we can get Ms. Cam,” I called into their room.

“Ms. Cam?” Skye appeared first.

“Yes, she is going to come with us,” I answered.

I’d left that detail out because they’d driven me crazy with questions. I didn’t want to give them something else to ask questions about.

“Ms. Cam is coming? Yay!” Fee cheered.

I was excited she was coming with us too.

I led the girls out of the house across the hall. Cam opened the door wearing a pair of light pink stilettos, light denim jeans, a white t-shirt, and a pink blazer. Her light makeup enhanced her big brown eyes and full lips. She smelled sweet and looked amazing.

“Hey, guys!” Cam smiled.

“Hi, Ms. Cam!” both girls said.

“You look…” I paused to search for the appropriate word to use in front of the girls. “…good.”

“Thank you. You look nice too. Green is a great color on you,” Cam said, referring to the dark green button-down shirt I was wearing.

“Thank you. Are you ready to go?”

“I’m ready, let me grab my purse,” Cam said.

She stepped away and returned with a pink purse with a gold chain that matched her blazer.

“How was your day?” Cam asked the girls as I navigated to our destination.

“It was so long!” Fee said.

“It was! It felt like it was never going to be over!” Skye cosigned.

“Why?” Cam asked.

“’Cause we was ready to go to Patty’s house!” Skye said.

“They haven’t stopped talking about it since I told them we were going,” I shook my head.

“Did you have a good day?” Cam asked, looking at me.

“It was good,” I glanced at her then back at the road. “And yours?”

“It was an easy day. I appreciate those,” she said.

“Daddy, can you turn the radio up?” Fee asked.
