To Ms. Cambria,

I was so happy to hear that my words inspired you to go after your dreams. I’ve added you to my daily prayer. I pray for the success of Suite Dreams and everything else you put your hands to.

I look forward to being your neighbor in the new development.

Best of Luck,

Azariah

My eyes immediately filled with tears.

“Morris…thank you!”

“No problem. I told Azariah about you and how much the book meant to you. He was happy to give you one from his personal collection and sign it.”

I put the book down on my table and wrapped my arms around his waist. He put his arms around me, and we hugged. We looked at each other for a moment. I didn’t know what was going through his mind, but I thoughtif I kissed him, would that be a bad thing? I mean friends kissed, right?I answered my own question, stand down, sis, he ain’t yours.

Damn integrity. Who in the hell made up the rules anyway?

“Well, let me get out of here. I have two little women to pick up,” Morris said and let me go.

“Thank you again,” I said while grabbing his hand.

He kissed my hand and said, “You’re welcome.”

He left the office. I sat down and examined the beautifully bound book that changed my life. I ran my finger across the inscription from the man whose words breathed life into my dream. This was the best present I’d ever received. Maybe I should listen to Tweet and have the conversation with him.

Iemerged from my office, and everyone was dancing, eating, and having a good time.

“Hey!” my client Coco said, after giving me a hug.

“Hey, thanks for coming.”

“You know I had to see Ms. Tweet off. I heard LaTrina is finally coming in to get something done to that head!” Coco said.

“Yep, she’s coming in soon,” I responded.

“She was on my back about my hair. I told her that you stayed booked. You rarely take new clients,” Coco said.

“Yeah, but she really went out of her way to look after two little girls that she didn’t even know. To me, that speaks a lot about her character. I make deals with people with good character.”

“Whose girls?” Coco asked.

“Morris’ girls. Their mother left them over on Cabanne with Tez and some other dudes in the house. Tez called Morris and told him his daughters were over there.”

“Oh, that was Skye and Fee that were over there? I heard about Tony’s ratchet ass, leaving some kids over there. I didn’t know if it was one of the three hundred he has or someone else’s. So, the chick he’s been hanging around with is Moe’s baby momma?” Coco said.

“Beatrice? Yep, that’s her,” I confirmed.

“Small world,” Coco responded.

“Small St. Louis…so, you know Tony?”

“Tony is a stick-up kid and a con artist. He doesn’t hustle. He steals. He was never allowed on our blocks because of his reputation. Tez and ‘em keep him around for reasons unknown. That shit is going to backfire on them one day,” Coco explained.

“Morris called him a fuckboy. I wasn’t sure why, but now I know.”
