Cam came back into the living room and sat next to me on the couch.

“Val is just finishing up with the girls. They are back there talking her head off,” she laughed.

“Oh, should I go and get them?”

“Naw, she loves it. They are helping her put all the dresses back into the bags. This didn’t wear you out too much, did it?” Cam asked.

“Naw, I feel much better. Thank you for doing this for them.”

“I had fun too. I’m glad you feel better. So tomorrow, my day is full of appointments. I can take the girls back to the shop with me after they leave aftercare because I know I won’t be finished before eight or nine,” Cam said.

“That won’t be necessary. I will get them from aftercare.”

“Moe, are you sure?”

“I’m sure. I will still rest tomorrow but getting out of the house will do me some good. If I don’t feel up to it, I will let you know.”

“Okay, I am going to take your word for it,” Cam said.

I pulled her closer to me, wrapped my arm around her neck, and kissed her cheek.

“Thanks for every single thing. We would’ve been a mess without you.”

“You’re welcome,” Cam smiled. “Even though you were a complete baby.”

“Whatever!” I laughed and lightly pushed her away.

“I guess I can reschedule my date now,” Cam said, causing me to almost choke on my own spit.

“Date?” I trained my voice to not sound surprised.

“Yeah, I was supposed to go out with this guy I met at the grocery store, but when you got sick, I canceled. I told him I would let him know when I could reschedule,” she answered nonchalantly.

I could’ve said that she didn’t have to cancel her date because of me, but her canceling on whoever he was showed his ranking in her life…after me.

“You used me as an excuse to get out of it?”

“No, it was a real reason. Like I said, I’m going to reschedule.”

“Who is this clown?”

“I don’t know if he’s a clown yet, but I met him atMcIntyre’s. From the conversations we’ve had, he seems like a good person. He works for one of the sanitation companies.”

“He’s a trash man?”

“No, he works in the office,” she replied.

Same difference. He’s a clown.

“Have you looked into his background. How do you know he’s not some serial shoe smeller or something like that?”

“I don’t know, Morris. That’s what dating is for.”

“Okay,” Valentina said while walking from the back of the apartment. “I am going to take the girls’ dresses back and do some alterations to them. I will let you know when they are ready.”

I stood from the couch to open the door for her.

“Thank you again, Valentina. I appreciate you bringing everything here.”
