“Yeah, it was a nasty virus, but all is well,” I answered.

“It was nice of you to take care of her while she was sick. I wondered if you were just blowing me off,” Miles said.

“No!” I chuckled. “I wasn’t trying to blow you off.”

I heard him say, “her,” but I didn’t correct him.

“So, tell me about yourself, Cam.”

“I am a hairstylist, but I told you that already. I like to travel and explore. I love new adventures and trying new things. I’ve recently started taking swim lessons after having a fear of water for years.”

“Wow, congratulations. How are the classes going?” Miles asked.

“Very well. I have an amazing and patient instructor. What about you?”

“I work for a sanitation company, but you know that already. I used to be on the trucks, which I sort of miss, but now I am in the offices. I like good food and good company,” Miles smiled.

“Why are you single?” I asked, wanting to cut straight to the chase.

“I was in a relationship for five years. We recently broke up, and now I’m back on the market. I went on several dates with women I met onNSNC. Those didn’t go so well,” Miles said.

“Right? I almost went on a date with someone from that site, and it was a disaster.”

“You said almost?”

“His wife showed up instead,” I deadpanned.

“Whoa,” Miles said.

“Needless to say, I haven’t tried that again,” I chuckled.

“I will pass your question back to you. Why are you single?” Miles asked.

Morris and the girls flashed through my mind. I wondered what they were doing.

“I am single because…honestly?”

He nodded his head.

I took a deep breath and sat up straight in my chair, “I am single because I have a thing for my friend. I’ve had it for a long time, and it’s getting in the way of me even considering someone else. There is a conversation that I need to have with him and I’m scared because I think I don’t want to know the truth. I mean, like maybe the truth is good, but what if the truth is bad?”

“So, this conversation will decide if you move forward with the romance or just keep the friendship?” He asked.

“Yes, to a degree, it will. I think the conversation will determine how he really sees me. Like he may see me as this strong woman, or he may see me as a weak little girl that he thought he could get over on. I’m sorta afraid to know,” I rushed out.

“I just met you, but I get the feeling that he’s not looking at you like a weak little girl. There is nothing weak about you from what I can tell,” Miles said.

“Guys have tried to make me their side chicks before. I think that means that they think I’m naïve or gullible. I don’t want to be viewed as either.”

“Did you go for it?”

“Hell no!”

“Then, that’s a reflection on the person that tried to put you in that situation and not you. You didn’t fall for it when there are thousands of other women who have for whatever reason. After you said no, did they ask again?”

“No.”

“You set the standard and they understood and respected it. I can guarantee you that none of those guys viewed you as weak. I’m sure your friend doesn’t either,” Miles finished.
