“Fee, what’s wrong?” I asked, realizing I’d fallen asleep on Morris’ couch.

“I had a bad dream a giant ice cream cone was chasing me, and I was riding fast on my unicorn, but it was catching up,” Fee explained.

“Wow, that must’ve been scary,” I whispered.

“It was. Now, I’m thirsty,” she whispered back.

“How about we get some sleepy time tea from the kitchen, then I will tuck you back into your bed?”

“Okay,” she nodded.

After heating up the water in the electric kettle, I poured the hot water over the teabag, added a little milk to it, and passed the cup to Fee. We shared a quiet conversation while we drank our tea. I walked with her back into her room and tucked her in.

“See you later,” I smiled.

“See ya,” she returned.

I gently closed the door to their room and backed up into a hard body.

“Moe!” I jumped and turned around. “You scared the crap out of me!” I whisper-yelled.

“Sorry,” he whispered. “Did she wake you up?”

“Yeah, but it’s okay. I fell asleep by mistake. I need to get to my place.”

“You don’t have to leave,” Morris returned.

I didn’t know if he moved in closer or I did, but we were practically chest to chest in his dark hallway. His scent made me feel heady, while his proximity made me horny. I wanted to lift up on my toes and kiss him or at least say I wanted to be with him, but I chickened out.

“No,” barely came out. It was like my mind and mouth weren’t connected. I needed to say no, but I really wanted to say yes. “No,” I cleared my throat and said it with more authority. “I have a very early morning. I have to go and work on a bride, so I need to get myself prepared,” I responded.

“Cam,” Morris started as he grabbed my hand.

“Yes?” I waited for him to continue.

“…thank you for taking care of Fee,” he finished.

“My pleasure.”

“Will you be able to come out with us for my birthday?”

“I’m going to try. After I finish with the bride, the rest of my schedule is jam-packed.”

“Okay, no pressure.”

“Good night, Cam,” he kissed my hand.

“Good night, Morris.”

Piercing screams came from four little girls when Patti opened the front door for the girls and me.

“SKYE! FEE!” all the little girls screamed.

Their energy was on a thousand. I had no idea how the adults were going to handle them all weekend.

“Morris,” Sallie said. “Girls, move and let them in, please.”
