“Thanks,” I said as we hugged.

He and Drew had the same interaction.

“Happy birthday, Moe,” Vetta, Darron’s wife, said after we hugged.

“Thank you, beautiful. You looking good tonight,” I said.

“You know how we do. It’s my brothers’ birthday, I had to represent,” she said and twirled around.

“Dayum, Vetta! You looking fine as usual,” Drew said.

Vetta was Darron’s wife, but she was a part of our group in college. She’d been around as long as Darron had. She could drink, cuss, dance, gamble, and talk sports with the best of us, but we always respected her as Darron’s lady.

Darron had a quick conversation with one of the bouncers before beckoning us to follow him into the club. He owned several clubs in the area so, it was no surprise that we were allowed to enter the club ahead of the line.

The club looked to be newly renovated with a large bar area situated in the middle of the room. People crowded around all four sides waiting for their drinks or yelling over the music attempting to order drinks. The plush seating around the perimeter of the room was full of people laughing, drinking, or dancing in their seats.

The DJ played the latest music, keeping the dance floor full of people moving.

Behind the DJ was a wall filled from top to bottom with bottles. There was a girl on a rope suspended from the ceiling delivering bottles from the wall to the bottle girls on the floor.

Darron directed us up to the second floor VIP area, where he introduced us to the owner, Jesse.

“Jesse, these are my people,” Darron introduced.

Jesse spoke to everyone.

“Jesse and I are looking to open more of these clubs around the area and out of town,” Darron explained.

“Starting with Vegas,” Jesse smiled.

“Yep,” Darron agreed.

“Drinks are on the house all night. Enjoy yourself and happy birthday,” Jesse said before leaving the area.

We all stood at the railing, looking down onto the crowd. The DJ was playing “Country Grammar” by Nelly. It was amazing how people still got hype when that song was played, especially people from St. Louis. People were clamoring to the dance floor from all four corners of the club to sing the familiar hook, “I'm going down, down baby your street in a Range Rover…”

“Are you gentlemen okay up here?” one of the bottle girls asked while removing the empty bottle of Moët and replacing it with another one.

“We are good, sweetheart,” Drew said, turning on the charm.

Her bright red lips formed a smile as she sashayed away.

“Now, that’s what you need for your birthday!” Drew said, watching her walk away.

I’m outside – Cam

I’m coming to get you. Stay put.

“I’m cool on that, bro. I’ll be right back,” I responded while tucking my phone in my pocket and heading down the steps to the main level.

I looked out into the crowd and saw Cam’s signature platinum hair slowly moving through the crowd. I quickly made my way down the steps to the floor, trying to keep my eyes on her so that I wouldn’t lose her in the crowd.

“Hey,” I said while grabbing her hand.

She turned around with fire in her eyes until she realized it was me touching her. She smiled.

“I was about to slap the hell out of you for grabbing me,” she yelled over the music.
