When we finally pulled away again, I felt disappointment that it was over. Then I recognised the desire in his fiery gaze and I knew that it was far from being done. It had only just begun.

“You taste…” Faenir said, voice a low growl. “Divine.”

I smiled, my stomach jolting with anticipated excitement. “For someone who has not kissed before you certainly did well.”

“Arlo,” he breathed my name as though trying to control himself. “You could not possibly comprehend what the many years of imagination has given me.”

“Show me.”

Faenir stared at me without blinking. His entire focus was on me, creating a thrilling jolt that awakened every sense in my body. It was as though he was starved, and I was his meal; he contemplated which part of me he wished to devour first.

“Are you certain you want this?”

“I wantyou.” And I did, as desperately as he wanted me; I was confident of that. My head was full of him, with no room for any other thought. In that moment it was only us, and the world and the realms beyond this room no longer mattered.

Faenir grinned slowly, his red-stained and swollen lips tugging at the corners. I spluttered a breath as he moved, gathering his raven locks in his fist and twisting it into a knot. I had not seen him so clearly before. With his hair pulled back from his face I could see every perfect curve and line. He was handsome, more so than I had first believed.Everything about him was sharp, from the length of his nose and the protruding of his jawline. His face had been carved from the dagger of the gods.

No. He was a god. In every sense as power curled from his tall, broad body in undulant waves.

“Doyouwant this?” I asked, unable to bear the tense silence as Faenir gathered himself.

“In every possible capacity you could imagine.”

“Then have me,” I breathed, shrugging off the new jacket the tailors had made for me until it slipped freely from my shoulders and fell to the floor. “Do with me as you wish. I give myself to you, body and all.”

“Oh, darling,” Faenir groaned. “You cannot imagine how long I have waited to hear that.”

Without taking my eyes off him I lifted a finger to pull the dark cords of my tunic.

“No.” Faenir put a hand on mine to stop me. “Allow me.”

A shiver spread up my spine. I lowered my hand to my side and gave Faenir the control to undress me. He did so with careful hands. Faenir treated me as though I was made of glass. However, all I wished was for him to shatter me.

Patience, his eyes commanded me. The shattering would come.

“Arms up,” Faenir demanded.

I listened, raising my arms as he lifted the tunic over my head. His knuckles grazed my stomach; my slight muscles rippled in reaction. I was surprised when he turned his back and walked towards the chest of dark oak drawers. He folded my tunic, placed it carefully upon the chest’s sideboard and then turned back to me.

“I do not wish to rush this,” he said from a distance.

I stepped forward desperately. “Do you wish to torture me then?”

“Perhaps.”

I swallowed hard.

Faenir leaned back upon the chest of drawers. The shadows around him seemed to twist and snake. “Now let me watch you take your trousers off.”

My hands fumbled for the belt in haste. The pouch with the glass vials knocked against my hip as I carefully discarded it atop the rumpled jacket that waited on the floor.

“Slower.”

I glowered at him. “Give me one good reason to.”

“I have waited many years, I can wait a few more seconds.”

My tongue spread out and traced my lower lip before sucking it in and nibbling upon it. It was a test for my hands not to shake as I popped the button of my trousers. My fingers were numb as I worked on unbuttoning the final two golden clasps. My trousers fell at my feet and I stepped free of them.
