Chapter Eleven

Archer

I pace on the steps of the Grand Hotel where tonight’s charity gala is being held, and with each passing moment I flick between worry and annoyance. She’s late. The limo should be here by now and it’s nowhere to be seen. My brothers took one look at me and laughed, taking off in the direction of our in-suite bar.

I don’t know what’s so amusing to them.

On the ride over here I did at least manage to get them to confess that neither of them had done any more than spank her, so you’d think they’d be as eager for her arrival as I am. I don’t get it. My balls ache to see her again.

Finally, the company limo pulls into sight and I stop pacing. I have to force myself to remain at the top of the stairs and not rush down to greet it. Instead, I text my brothers that she’s here, before pocketing the phone once again.

Once the limo draws to a stop, I wait patiently for the driver to open the door and help Rhylie out. The sight before me when she exits the vehicle is mesmerising.

She’s wearing red - as instructed - but nothing could have prepared me for the sight of Rhylie in a long satin crimson gown with a plunging halter neck front and a side split. Her lips are a matching ruby red and she’s styled her long dark hair in loose curls which hang over one shoulder. She looks stunning. And I can’t help but notice the way her nipples pebble and show through the thin satin in the cold night air. When she moves towards the steps, the slash in the dress parts, showing off a long expanse of her perfect skin. An almost indecent amount of skin. Sure, it’s a formal event, but it’s still work. I can’t wait to punish her for that.

I stride past her on the stairs as she heads up towards the hotel. We ignore one another and I make a beeline for the driver. I had hoped to wrong-foot her by blanking her, but it seems she had the same idea as me.

“What happened?” I ask when I’m finally by his side.

“Erm…”

“Tell me, Jonah.”

“Mr. Miller,” his voice is reluctantly pleading.

“It’s okay. There won’t be any repercussions, Jonah,” I reassure him. “But you’re nearly an hour late and I was getting worried.”

“It was Ms. Hall, Sir,” he sheepishly informs me. “She didn’t want to come.”

“I see.”

“She refused to get in the limo for quite some time, Sir. I wasn’t sure what to do.” He sounds panicked.

“Don’t worry, Jonah, you did well,” I tell him. “You have a good night now.”

I tip him generously - he’s my favourite driver and he’s had to deal with Ms. Hall’s ass - but he seems taken aback.

“Sir?”

“Hmmm?”

“Won’t I be needing to stay? To see Ms. Hall home?”

“Oh, that won’t be necessary, Jonah,” I insist.

Thankfully, he leaves it at that, nods once, and wishes me a goodnight. Then he gets back in the limo and heads home.

So, Ms. Hall didn’t want to come, and she played up my driver and caused him stress. That won’t do at all. Now that I know she’s okay, and that she wasn’t involved in a horrific accident, I’m more pissed than worried. How dare she throw a fit over tonight. It’s a company event; she’s working. And being paid generously for her time, too.

I climb the stairs to re-enter the hotel, in search of my brothers. I pass Ms. Hall on the way; she’s standing in the doorway to the ballroom, looking uncertain, but I don’t have the inclination to stop and comfort her. I’m too mad and need a drink to calm down first, before I do or say something I’ll regret.

I enter our private suite for the evening and find my brothers lounging in leather wingback chairs, brandies cradled in their hands. I call to the butler in the corner of the room for another and take a seat with them both.

“Did she show?” Bennet asks.

“Finally,” I grumble.

“You ready for this?” Cole asks me.
