“No, and we were here real early. But we’ll keep an eye out from now on, love,” Rowan promises.

“Okay, thanks. I have to go get ready for my eleven o’clock now, so I’ll see you later. Are we still on for our date?”

“Absolutely. I’ll come to you.”

“Great. Looking forward to it.” I smile, and see him out of the shop just in time to welcome my booking.

I enjoy the reading more than usual. The client, Luna, was so grateful for the advice I gave her that she ended up buying half the shop. I sent her off with the flowers from FFS; it seemed the right thing to do.

Lunchtime rolls around before I know it, and I’m just getting ready to take Jasper out for some relief, when the incubus turns up. I know I shouldn’t think of him by his species, rather than his name, but I can’t help it. He fascinates me.

“Hey, sweetheart, are you good to go?” He grins down at me. I feel like I have to take a step back and crane my neck to see him fully.

“Absolutely. Where are we off to? Is it dog friendly?”

He chuckles. “I’ll say. I thought we’d have a picnic in the park.”

“Great!” I beam at him and follow him out onto the street. I shut up the shop and clip Jasper’s lead on and allow Oakley to lead us to the park. He stops by his car to grab a large wicker picnic basket from the back, and I smile at his thoughtfulness. It’s a beautiful day, and I love to be outdoors. As soon as we arrive at the park and choose a spot, I take off my shoes and run my toes through the grass. Oakley lays out a blanket for us to sit on, and Jasper enjoys sniffing everything in sight and chasing butterflies.

I sit back and relax as Oakley pulls a feast from his basket and lays it all out on the blanket for us.

“Wow everything looks so good! Did you get it all from the same place?”

“Absolutely.” He grins.

“You have to tell me where,” I groan, biting into a delicious tart that simply melts in my mouth.

“I made it.”

“What?”

“I made everything you see. Even the cordial you’re about to drink—and love by the way.” He winks good naturedly and passes me a sparkling perry with a blackberry and elderflower cordial mixed in. It tastes like summer and heaven.

“Wow. So, not just a grumpy face then?”

“You forgot ‘intimidating body’ too.”

I laugh. “Seriously, where did you learn to cook?”

“I have many talents I’d like to share with you...but first you have to tell me what happened at the shop.”

I groan.

“The guys already filled you in?”

“Yep. And they messaged Ash.”

“What? How did they get his number?”

“We all swapped digits at Club Vee. Figured you’d need the four of us to keep you in line.”

“I do not!”

“Sure. Day one and you already need an entourage to protect you.”

“In case you didn’t notice, I’m a half-witch, so I’m more than capable of taking care of myself.”
