Chapter Thirteen

Next morning I’m woken way too early by a delicious smell filling the house. French toast. I groan. Then panic sets in. Who the hell is in my house? I scramble out of bed, pull a long T-shirt on that falls to mid-thigh, and tiptoe down the stairs cautiously. I have a spell on the top of my tongue—no other weapons necessary—as I swing open the kitchen door.

It’s empty.

But the small kitchen table I have is heavily laden with breakfast foods, including French toast. Okay, so clearly this is the handiwork of one of my guys. But we will be having words about coming into my house uninvited.

I look around for Jasper and frown when I can’t find him. I left my phone upstairs so I head back to grab it, intending to message the guys and find out what the hell is going on, but before I get the chance to open up the group chat, the front door opens and Jasper barks happily to let me know he’s home. I fly downstairs and scoop him into my arms, showering him with kisses. Then I level a glare at Ash and Oakley.

“It is not okay to break into somebody’s house to steal their dog and cook them breakfast!” I cry indignantly. Although, it kind of sounds stupid to my ears when I say it out loud. How dare they take care of my chores for me.

“We didn’t steal your damn dog,” Oakley growls. “He’s right there.”

“We walked him for you,” Ash supplies. “I said I’d swing by to help. And we didn’t break in. Your door wasn’t even locked.”

Oh. Ah crap. I guess when Rowan and Linden left last night, I did just throw myself on the bed in a strop.

“We did make you breakfast though, sorry.” Oakley smirks, not sorry at all, and just making me sound even more ridiculous.

“Let’s eat,” I grumble, stomping into the kitchen.

“Let’s wait,” Ash says as he follows me.

“Why?” I’m instantly on edge, suspicious.

“The others are joining us.” He shrugs, like it’s no big deal.

“No,” I growl. “I don’t want them here.”

“Not what you said last night, darlin’,” comes Linden’s smug taunting lilt as he lets himself in through the back door.

“Get out,” I grind from between clenched teeth.

“Can we apologize?” Rowan adds, stepping out from behind his twin. I throw a death glare at him too. Oakley chuckles and takes a seat, happy to watch the drama unfold. Does he feed off conflict too?

“Nope,” he answers my silent question, popping the p and smirking at me. “But this sexual tension is better than the feast we cooked up.”

“Shut up,” I growl. I don’t sound fierce at all but my glare obviously works because he laughs under his breath this time.

“Jas—”

“I don’t want to hear it.”

“Sit your ass down and fucking listen to what we have to say,” Linden snaps. I’m so shocked that I do as I’m told and then glare fiercely at him. I’m mighty pissed at the twins, but more mad at myself for following instructions. Linden smirks at me. “Good girl.”

I unleash a string of curses, turning the air around us blue, and Ash reaches out a hand to touch my arm in a calming manner.

“Ow! Fuck!” he cries, jerking his hand away when he gets shocked by my anger.

“Shit sorry.” I cringe, instantly upset that I’ve hurt him. I rub his hand to take away the pain and Oakley laughs.

“What the hell was that?” Ash asks.

“I got angry, sorry,” I mutter.

“You shock people when you’re angry?” He raises his eyebrows incredulously.

“She did it to me too,” Rowan grumbles.
