“Won’t that be dangerous?”

“We’ll still use mats.”

“Won’t it be...cold?”

“You’ll be sweating so much from the workout, you won’t feel the cold, but your body will get all of the benefits!”

“Okay, so I think the idea is great—everyone knows about the health benefits of fire and ice…”

“But…?”

“But, can’t you just do that yourself at the studio?” she whispers, nodding to my palms.

My water control is much stronger than my air, but in Silver Springs I tend to shift into air creatures more than water. I miss the ocean. Who wants to be a pond frog when you can be a mermaid?

“Well, I could, but clean up would be a bitch!” I laugh.

“Where did this idea come from then?”

“I just really loved being on the ice last night, despite the numpty I was there with. I’ve missed it. I miss home.”

“I heard there are some real hotties working at the rink.”

My face warms, and I can’t meet her gaze.

“Well I guess you’ll see for yourself when you come to the party on Saturday.”

“I can’t wait. I’ve got the perfect gift for Ade planned!”

“Ugh, I wish I knew what to get her.”

“Why not get her some skates?”

“What if she hates skating?”

“She won’t.” She smiles enigmatically. “I think you guys will be spending a lot of time there.”

“You have seen something!” I exclaim. Jas smiles and hides behind the dregs of her drink.

“Maybe. But it’s time for doga.”

“Ugh. You suck. Fine. I’ll get her some damn skates.” I moan as I get to my feet and beckon Ade over to leave.

“You won’t regret it.”
