“You mean Mavis?”

“Oh no, he didn’t waste any time with Mavis. He got stuck right in with her. But he’s decided that he’s too old to be tied down. He wants one last go at sowing his wild oats and wishes to play the field a bit. Today’s challenge is Betty.” I laugh. “But don’t change the subject. I will woo you, and you will swoon. We may need to invest in some smelling salts because you’ll be so overcome by my attention.”

“Is that so?”

“Absolutely. Care for a demonstration?”

He dips me back like the guys in the old black and white movies do at the end of a dance but a loud throat clearing interrupts whatever moves he was about to put on me.

“Ah-hem. I hope you’re not putting the moves on my date,” Yas harrumphs. Quilo quickly rights me, and I smooth down my dress.

Like a perfect gentleman, he kisses the back of my hand the way Doris instructed him before leaving me and Yas alone.

I turn to face him and my heart warms at the sight of him. He looks absolutely gorgeous in a light blue shirt and slacks, his blonde hair and icy eyes giving him the perfect boy next door look that sets my heart racing. He has a bunch of flowers in his hand which he passes to me.”

“These are for you. You look absolutely beautiful.” He nuzzles my neck affectionately and drops a chaste kiss on my cheek. “Shall we go?”

“Sure,” I reply, a little flustered by his attention. He takes my hand in his and butterflies start up in my stomach. “Where are we going?”

“It’s a surprise but we’ll be taking a portal to get there?”

“A portal?” I blink. Portals are quite rare. They’re complicated magic to create and as such, incredibly expensive to purchase. I don’t know anyone who can make one themselves.

“There are some perks to being heir to the throne.” Yas grins at me, a charming boyish smile that melts my insides. “Are you ready?”

I nod, and within a minute, a swirling vortex of ice blue light appears before us. Maintaining his hold on my hand, Yas steps into the void, gently tugging me along with him.

When my head stops spinning, the first thing I notice is that we’re definitely not in Silver Springs anymore. I mean, obviously I wasn’t expecting to be, what with the portal and everything, but all I can see before me is miles and miles of snow and ice. A frozen lake, snow-capped mountains, and what looks like an ice palace far off in the distance.

“Are we in your kingdom?” I ask in awe.

“We are.” Yas smiles happily. “I know you said you would be happy to go running with me but I thought you might like to do it here, rather than on the streets of Silver Springs.”

“Wow.” I don’t know what else to say. I mean, I know I’ve not been on many, but as far as dates go, this has to be pretty impressive by anyone’s standards.

Which is when it hits me: I’m dating a prince.

Oh crap. Oh crap. Oh crap.

“Lumi?”

Shit. Shit. Shit.

“Lumi!”

“Huh?”

“Breathe.” I stare at Yas blankly. “You’re freaking out.”

“You’re a prince.”

“I am.”

“This is your kingdom.”

“Our kingdom.”

I frantically shake my head.
