“She’s in bed,” Whit tells me. “We weren’t sure when you’d be back and she was pretty tired after all the fun we had. Here look at this.”

He passes me his phone, and I hit play on the video he has lined up on the screen. It shows Quilo and Ade in what appears to be a recording studio, singing together. It’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, and it’s clear to see that Ade is having a great time. “You, Yas and Whit are my rock, my paper and my scissors,” she says at the end of the video.

“You’re welcome to stay the night, rather than wake her. She’s in the room she picked out but it’s not quite purple enough for her, so we’re going to decorate at the weekend.”

“Don’t go to any trouble!”

“This is going to be your home too, we need to make it feel that way,” Quilo protests. “Anyway, we have her things here if you do want to stay.”

“You’ve got her school stuff?”

“No. Whit here got impatient and went and got all your stuff. Well, virtually all of it.”

“Yeah, I didn’t empty your bedroom drawers once I saw what was inside,” Whit says, grinning evilly at me. “But I definitely want to talk about it.”

“You moved us in?!”

“I’m not sorry.” He shrugs.

“And he came up with a good idea,” Quilo continues. “If you don’t want to let your apartment go, you could sub-let it to that new kid you have working at the studio. You know she’s practically homeless right?”

“I suspected. I haven’t had the time to get to know her properly yet.”

“I’m pretty sure she’s been sleeping in your office on the pull out couch.”

“Okay, that won’t do. She should have the apartment. I’m guessing I can leave most of my furniture for her.”

“Absolutely, but we can sort all that out this weekend when we finish moving you in.”

“I’ll be done by tomorrow,” Whit corrects. I shake my head but don’t bother to argue with him. “You should stay tonight. It’s late. It wouldn’t be fair to wake Ade up.”

He’s absolutely right of course.

“Okay, but could you show me where she’s sleeping? I’d just like to check in on her.”

“Of course. I can show you to your room too if you’d like.” A sudden, unexpected yawn escapes me and I grin.

“That would be great.”

Quilo comes over to me and scoops me up into a big hug.

“I had the best time with Ade tonight. Thank you, firefly,” he whispers, before kissing me.

Yas is next, sweeping me into a full body hug, running his hands down my back and kissing me tenderly.

“I’m sorry about tonight.”

“Don't be. It really was perfect,” I reassure him. “I can’t wait to do it again.”

“Sweet dreams, beautiful.”

I say goodnight and let Whit take my hand to lead me away. Once we’re alone, I pull from his grip and frown at him.

“What?” He demands. “You're mad at me?”

“I’m not happy,” I say.

“Why not?” He stops walking and turns to face me, crossing his arms in defiance. Somehow I match his stance.
