“So this is how I die?” I say playfully, but swallow hard at the thought of being on the back of that bike. Mica throws his head back and laughs, and I smile awkwardly. “Seriously, though, how long have you been riding that thing?” I ask.

He puts the helmets down and steps in front of me, lifting my chin so I’m looking into his eyes.

“You’re safe with me, Beauty. If you’re uncomfortable, we can take the car,” Mica offers, but I shake my head.

“No, let's take the bike, I just…I’ve never. I’m just nervous. That’s all,” I say, taking a deep breath. Mica wraps his arms around my waist, pulling me against him.

“I’ll take good care of you, Belle,” he says in a husky voice, and I bite my lip.

“Okay,” I whisper, and Mica steps back, grabbing a helmet, and helping me put it on. After Mica is seated, he rocks the bike off the main stand and with a flick of his wrist the engine roars to life. At his nod, I climb on behind him using the pillion footpeg to give me a boost to swing my leg over the back. Once I’m seated, I wrap my arms around him tightly. The helmet is a little awkward, but I’m not loosening my grip for anything.

As he pulls out of the garage, I cling to him even tighter, which makes him chuckle. I can’t hear it, but I can feel the movement through his back, even over the rumble of the bike.

Once we hit the street, he picks up speed, and I have to hold in my scream, so I don’t embarrass myself. The feeling is exhilarating…but also terrifying.

They live so close to the ocean that the coastal drive we take is gorgeous. It almost distracts me from the pounding of my heart. We drive past a pier that has so much going on, I don’t get to take it all in, but Mica pulls us into a parking lot, and cuts the engine of the bike. I jump off so fast I nearly land on my ass.

After I tug off the helmet, I shake my hair out and look around. There are carnival rides, arcade games, vendors, and food trucks selling everything from handmade jewelry to mouthwatering foods. The mini golf course is pretty big and even has a mini bar. I do a little happy dance and spin to face Mica.

“This is where we’re spending the day?!” I practically scream in excitement.

“Yeah, come on. Let’s get some curly fries and a drink before I completely destroy you in a game of mini golf.”

He’s teasing me, but I can see the spark of competitiveness in his eyes.

Today will be epic!
