“What did you do?”

“I got up and went outside.”

“Why?”

“Because I was expecting him.”

“Who? The guy on the bike?”

“Yes.”

“Who was it?”

My heart leaps into my throat. This is it! We could be about to get the answers – hell maybe even a name – at long last!

“My love.” Cryptic.

Tex pauses. It’s more of a hesitation. I can see him carefully weighing up his next question.

“What did you do once you got onto the street?”

“I looked around for the bike.”

“Did you see it?”

“Yes. There was a guy sitting on it.”

“How did you feel?”

“A bit annoyed.”

“Why?”

“He didn’t get off the bike to meet me.”

“Did he say anything?”

Again, she pauses, considering.

“No. He waved, though.”

“Did he smile?”

“He didn’t lift his visor.”

I hiss silently. There’s something we’re missing here. Something big that will change everything. Why doesn’t Tex get to the point with his questions?

“What did you do?”

“I approached him.”

“Then?”

“He nodded.”

“To you?”

“No. Someone behind me.”
